I feel like I should tease a little more about the game...

Basically how industries work is that is moves up a hierarchy, each one will require a little more than the last.

Farms provide wheat, wheat goes to the bakeries, bakeries produce bread. Your competitor has a ton of bakeries and farms supporting them? Hire some spies to sabotage the wheat harvest and cause his bakeries to dry up... Meaning you can move in with your own wheat supplies... at a much higher rate, or you could just self-supply your own bakeries and be the one to supply the bread to the villages.

The Guild, but with more features and more supply & demand?  Yes.

and less tedious managing of which perfume and ring I wear that day pls

My most fun moments in Guild 1/2 were when I was undermining the fuck out of my opponent's businesses or crowding them out of markets or using my political power to throw them in prison for no reason.
