I like realistic effects more then "You've been shot in the head, but since you rolled a crit you're totally fine" because the latter is a little too gamey for my tastes. The rolls to hit should be about how lucky you are, not how tough you are. You can be as tough as you like, but if you get shot in the gut you've been shot in the gut. Rolls to hit should probably have headshots be something spectacularly unlikely just to avoid unpleasantness.

If I end up using the clock, I will probably used a seconds based combat system for combat. Example:

John brings up his own gun, starting to quickdraw it. The cultists takes some time to line up the shot.

The cultist fires, hitting john before he can fire.

Except with more detail and more accurate times for everything, obviously.

Another important part is character creation. Do we use stats? What stats would we use? Or do we just have skills? Do we just role-play everything?

Stirk used this combat system in one of his games I played in. It seems like it could work here, since it doesn't really seem like guns are needed for this to work. It also had some focus on modifiers being important.

While this one is still the works, would anyone be willing to play test a small post-apoc game I put together? I just need maybe like 2 or 3 players. It has both a mutation and cybernetics progression tree, which, if they go well, I'd totally share with this game. If the designers want it.
