Dont be silly. Just fire a canister filled with expanding foam insulation. In zero gravity, surface tension would pull the foam over their bodies, and it would expand into a horrible ball that they could not escape from. As the pressure drops from expansion, the CO2 suspended in the acryl resin stops being a solvent, and it hardens. Works even when there is no atmosphere, because expansion is retarded by the nozel on the canister.

Shoot them because they looked threatening to the officer.
Problem solved.

That only works if they're black though

Woah there, friend. Try "African-American".

This is really only a term used in the USA- quite a lot of people on these forums live elsewhere (like me!)

Would that kill someone not wearing a helmet if you shot them in the neck or face? It would be good for stopping people wearing semi-rigid or soft spacesuits, hopefully it's not too damaging if you spray the foam across the walls or computer consoles. How do you get them out afterwards, and would it make someone much wider? I'm thinking about fitting a foam'd person through interior hatches.

Aha. Let's assume not.
What about magnet-headed harpoons, in a scenario where the only viable outerwear has magnetic materials in it? Be kinda' like an upsized game of this, maybe. Only the fishing poles are rocket propelled or somethin'.
The person you're capturing would have to be wearing a rigid suit in that case.

But those suits are made of hard polymers, not metal. If you did make one of metal, you would use light alloys like aluminum or titanium, not heavy ferrous metal.

Besides, everyone knows that 'Murrka is the only place that can into space, so the one black astronaut will be African-American by default.

In the middle of space, to a space cop, everyone would be black. Finally achieving equality under the law.

Wait, what thread am I in again?

True space cops would use a lasso. Or maybe a bolas. Take your pick.

Why not prevent the situation in the first place?

You simply split everyone who's looking to go into space into a good and evil half (e.g. by a magnetically desynchronised teleporter) and just send the good halves to space. There'll only ever be good people in space, no need to arrest anyone ever. This can't possibly go wrong in any conceivable way.

(The evil halves work in telemarketing, as corporate lawyers, real estate agents and the like. No difference to the previous state of affairs is observed, except that members of those professions are much less stressed.)

Just make sure every room of your station can be remotely sealed. Criminals there? Instant lock-up! Also convenient in case of hull breach. Needs good security and robust failsafes, mind.
