The landscape is hand-made, not procedural. It's probably big because of that combined with the reported immensity of the game world. I forget exactly how big it is, but it's apparently pretty big, plus it's got a decent bit of underground.

Oooooooookay, I won't be able to play this for a while. 7.8 GIGABYTE download, and I have a half meg/second download speed at best.

In addition to optimisation, they need to do some damn compression. I mean, Jesus.

Just pointing out btw, that it seems like one of the devs first priorities after ironing out inevitable bugs is getting to work on procedural "ARKs" alongside a number of other features.

Doubleposting to update the unwashed masses,

I also purchased this game. Download speed is about ~1.8MB/s so it should be done tonight. I've SEEN a lot of good things about the game based on my youtube searching, but from the Steam page it seems the servers are having trouble handling the ridiculous amount of people the hype has generated.

There's good news, they've very swiftly added local play. They've also apparently put out some extra servers so that the load isn't so bad.

It's certainly a fun game, but as they said in one of their Q&As, the game is not optimized except for the bare minimum. They shot for 30 FPS on a GTX 980, and it shows with weaker cards. I'm lucky enough to be used to it, but some may find 10 FPS a bit... nauseating.

*sigh*, it seems like every new game these days requires DX11, which unfortunately my like 2 year laptop can't support :I

30 FPS on a GTX 980
Ye gods and little fishes.

Yeah, no way am I bothering with this game until they at least make it playable on something other than top-tier card.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.

Will there be resets prior to full launch?

Have you tried hosting a server with just yourself on it?

For MP, apparently the best way to do it is to basically just host your own small server with a couple friends. The passworded servers are the only ones I see that seem to work well.

I bought it and downloaded it. Despite having a GTX 550 ( well below the suggested standards) it is playable. graphics at low are fairly bad however. But I prefer this to cities:skyline which at lowest settings still turns my computer into an oven.

seems nice, can't wait to play it on a good card/after optimization.

Yeah. Optimisation is REALLY gonna do this game favours.

In other news, mounts cannot walk backwards, and water does NOT break your fall.

The first got me killed when my guy walked off a cliff, and my attempts to save us (we landed on a ledge) got me killed (the git survived, though), the second got me killed when I jumped into the water near the base of the cliff. The water was nice and deep, still died.

Oh, that feeling when videogame logic fails to apply in a videogame

It's like being slapped with a haddock.
Disconcerting, surprising, and just wrong
