So, is this game worth the money the devs demand?
How is it compared to other 'survival game with dinosaurs'?

I have not played many other survival games which happen to feature dinosaurs, but I can say that I have had lots of fun despite the readily apparent lag issues. Except for optimization, the game has enough features to keep you playing for a while. It will lag unless you've got a well-designed or particularly powerful computer, however. I've got a GTX 550 Ti that, despite being 4 generations behind, manages to run the game at about 10 FPS in the densest jungle with several angry predators running at me, but I've heard complaints from people with better, stronger graphics cards that they get a crippling 1 or lower FPS.

I do have 16 gigs of RAM, though, so that might be picking up the slack.

Maybe I'll hold on buying this, until at least performance fixes have been released.

The steam sale is running up until the 16th so you have a few weeks to wait before they fix patches and still get it at reduced price.

I'd just like to mention I've read that dinos seemed to have periods with and without feathers. Then again, I've read a lot of conflicting info.

Also, posting to check feedback.

Feathers or not, doesn't bother me. Unless it's graphical glitches of course.

So far, the only graphical glitches I've seen are constructed objects being invisible when you first start up the world, which is dealt with by going a few hundred meters away and coming back. Everything else seems to be working fine, and they've been putting out patches every couple of hours. Some of them even manage to improve framerates a little, though one so far made it a tiny bit worse.

As for the dinosaurs, they're all scaly except for one gryphon-like bird of prey, but they're pretty explicitly stated as being genetically modified (the triceratops in the game actually has a major feature from a completely different dinosaur grafted on, it says so in its dossier), so it could just be chalked up to a mad scientist who likes the scale aesthetic.

Either single player is borked at the moment or my game is actually playing faster on the epic settings than on high or lower... but I think I read something about reloading on singleplayer screwing your framerate, and I started on epic, so that might be it. I'll try again on epic when I get home.

Haven't tried the multiplayer yet. Multiplayer isn't really my thing usually, but it looks like it could be fun for this one.

In that case I'll mention that scavenger and predator are not fixed, it's more like "in a special case, one may become another". As such, the Tyrannosaurus could have been either predator or scavenger, but either way, it's likely that it COULD actively hunt if it needed to.

Meaning: A hungry lion will eat a decaying corpse, even though it definitely prefers fresh meat it hunted itself (or others in the pack, anyway). A vulture may also attack an animal if it desperately can't find anything else.

Also, I'm guessing it might be an extremely territorial bird.
(I'm enjoying this game without having it already. :D )

Remember, it'll still be on sale up until the 16th so if you're not sure it's probably safer to wait a bit and see if things have improved by then.

This game is literally RUST with dinosaurs. That isn't a bad thing though...
