I tend to get rid of my dogs once I acquire elephants (or other large war-trainable animals)

Hmm, it looks like this year's dwarven caravan got scared off by a weasel.
I have 1 stack of forbidden caravan items and the caravan left the map without reaching the depot.
Looking at the combat log, a weasel attacked one of the caravan's yak bulls.

Have you tried building a depot tunnel against the map edge? Using raised drawbridges as walls, you can force the wagon to appear where you want it, and immediately stuff it underground to protect it from vicious weasels.

I’m surprised a weasel would attack a yak, no wonder the merchants were wary of a very confident, brave weasel

"attack" can mean many things.  If the yak got spooked by the weasel, its combat even if no blows came.  If the weasel registered as a combatant, it can come in at any level of lethality, from a child's playing, to sparring, to a brawl, to agonism.   I kind of doubt the weasel was ever in a position to even reach the yak

oh, that does make more sense than a weasel deciding to attack something much bigger than it, the question now is, why would a yak be spooked by something it could easily step on?

yaks are benign, meaning theyll run from everything and prefer to never fight.  Even if actively hunted.

Same, hence I posted about it.
The weasel did actually attack the yak twice, in both cases the yak jumped away.
The yak didn't benignly run away though, it kicked the weasel, sending it flying, then it kicked two times and the attacks glanced away, and it kicked the weasel and it's right leg sailed off in an arc. There the combat log ends, and the caravan left the map.

That's a very nimble yak.

Having a caravan turn around and drop an uberstack of forbidden caravan loot always makes me feel a bit violated.
It will probably take at least a full season to clean up and atomsmash that stack with my 12 adult population fort.
I hate it when that happens.

interesting cover choice for a magazine, most magazine covers I’ve seen have the cover relate to one of the headlines on it
