There is something to be said about, if the stakes are as high, maybe reconsider your certitudes. One has to be aggressively allistic to feel entitled to be able to trust. But it won't happen to me, my bit doesn't count etc etc... Just saying, after my recent experiences I couldn't trust the public if I wanted to. People got their risk assessment neurons rotten and replaced with game theory. Folks walk around like fat turkeys taunting the world to slaughter them.

@ Robsoie - That's not human warfare, that's horses not having any tags to make them stand and fight. There's nothing more infuriating than having to deal with mongol tactics in a game like dwarf fortress if enough people show up on skittish mounts with ranged weapons. The riders were probably trying to get the damned things to stop running away from the enemy.

Ah so in Dwarf Fortress it is the horse that is in control, not the rider ?
That would explain then this very odd behaviour.

edit : for some reason during a siege a bunch of trolls decided to ignore it and gather inside of an artificial pond

Trolls: Screw the war, we're gonna enjoy this pool.

And yeah. It's normally not noticeable since our enemies usually have things like bears or caver crawlers for mounts. Horses on the other hand absolutely refuse to fight unless modded to be fearless or something.

In the spring of its second year, the fortress Luretongs met its greatest challenge yet: migrants. It went from population 24 to 60 in a matter of days (and it might have been more if not for the cap). I checked the civ map and noticed that four or five other groups recently spread out from our parent civ to found their own sites. Therefore, I choose to believe that the parent civ is a horrific cesspit that all dwarfs will flee at the first opportunity. :)

Also, the first artifact produced in the fort is a table made of rock salt (with two separate images of elf slaughter on it). I guess if the dwarfs find their meals boring, they can always lick the table.

Giant Elephants take forever to breed. Looks like their pregnancy takes 10 years or somesuch, I'm having birth waves once every decade.

EDIT: I'll need to start making soil for them to feed soon. I always play with GRAZE_COEFFICIENT: 150, but they still eat a lot.

Stacks of 1300 giant elephant meat are awesome to make meals with other ingredients that your dwarves prefer. The meals will last for decades, constantly supplying dwarves with happy thoughts for having a decent meal.

Welcomed our first goblin citizen, looked at his skillset, and immediately promoted him to broker.

Thank you elves, for the breeding pair of giant lions.
I now have breeding war giant lions, war gorillas, war giant elephants (native to my map), and war jabberers. And a cave dragon male waiting for me to catch a mate.

Don't they?  <checks raws> Heh, they don't.

Indeed, why?

Well it's understandable why they don't have man versions (they're close enough to humanoid already) but good question on the lack of giant variations.

A very pissed off human civilisation decided to cross the rubicon, a hundred of human warriors came to destroy Gatestorm.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A very pissed off army from Gatestorm answered swiftly and definitively.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And now a hundred of human corpses are spread in half of the map as an example of why dwarvenkind does not appreciate those that collude with the gobs.
