she's set up a tunnel along her body and is using it to redirect anything she touches, yet light still gets through, and she still uses traditional shielding from the sun. meaning light can still harm her.
I signal all three of my nodes to configure for laser emission, aimed at Marie's position, but not to fire yet. My chains extend from their hidden position, in an X pattern - one at each shoulder, one at each foot, and the last coming up behind my head, all oriented at Marie. and I reconfigure my blade back into its twin-dagger form and put them away, my hands straying backwards to to my pocket to grab barrier dust, a Greater Mana Potion, and a Meta Potion.

This won't be fun, I'm in Marie's seat of power and she's already invested some in getting her pieces in place for this
speaking of investments...
actually, the planetary nodes aren't going to be aimed at Marie after all - They're aimed at the discolorations / algae on the planet.

Marie makes a noise that sounds like a snort.
Marie: Do you know who I was in history? I am the one who taught Einstein and Laplace that God does not play dice, that no man or woman, not one, is free from the shackles of fate. The human body can be modeled as a Markov state-machine with a chaotic system as an input, and it's child's play to run the iterations once I've gathered the data. My network is my great magic eye that sees the past and future in pure mathematical logic.

As you retract the scythe, you notice a distortion along the area where it intersects with Marie's body, and only there.

Mira sets her window in front and hides behind it, although you can still see her. The parts of her that are not behind the window, however, seem to have become invisible.

Marie: On the other hand, your display of emotions will provide valuable data for tweaking my model in the coming days. It is not often I encounter someone of your demeanor out here.

She reaches down to her feet and grabs onto something, then pulls a rift over herself, disappearing into the Network.

Try to free the balloons from the radio transmitter.

As you approach, you notice a huge strike lightning strike hit the transmitter. It seems fine, as the strike hit the antenna. You think this seems to be a one-off event, but as you approach even closer, another strike occurs.

There seems to be some multicolored particles lining the clouds around the transmitter. The transmitter tends to move with the clouds, since it's blown by the wind.

Take the claw and continue heading to my destination.

Your path is, as stated before, blocked by a barricade. The claw seems to shake slightly in your hand as you pick it up and move it around.

Yeah... no - Stellar node, whisker-laser power to Cent I node, Cent I node, recieve power from Stellar node and burn any algae it can acquire as targets. Cent II node, burn any algae it can acquire as targets.

she's got a large rift network in the area, and she's going to use it to play teleporter games with me if I don't do something about it.

so I will - I've been learning about her rift network while she's been getting her mind-reading data. I'm going to use that information to disrupt her network in the area around me. I don't need to make a working network of my own, I just need to break hers.

I should expect a large power-dump to get dropped on me from doing this. She's had quite a lot longer than I have to harvest energy from the star.

Chains - autodefend. She's going to flank me and there's nothing I can do about that until her rifts are down, especially with the star's background heat making it hard to see. Just be ready to block whatever she comes at me with. She isn't going to be able to remain passive-aggressive once I get the ball rolling.

Marie responds--with a voice from directly behind you. She momentarily appears  in the position it would take you the most amount of time to swing all of your weapons at her--smart move on her part.
Marie: Hmm? I said nothing about control. Determinism and free will are not mutually exclusive. While it is true that I can pick and choose whatever stimulus I desire and yield the expected output, your actions are what you are. Is a bird not free to lay her eggs? Is a cow not free to eat grass? You are the cause of your own actions. I control nothing there.

Mira: I don't think that's right...
Mira's window darkens.
Mira: People are more than just an equation.
Marie: Of course I don't deny that. What do you take me for, some kind of supervillain? But it is pure arrogance to assume that by existing in nature, your private thoughts and actions are somehow yours alone. In space, everything is public. All information is conserved, and one change necessitates another. Is this not the true end of science, to achieve predictive power beyond raw emotion and intuition?
Mira: You can't know everything though.
Marie: Humility is for those who live out their lives unaware of the truth above them. Knowledge is power. We who have knowledge need not be humble.
Mira: There's more than just wizards out there.
Marie: I don't believe you, but I'm willing to talk about it after this little prodigy has had her fun.
Mira sighs, and retreats back to invisibility. Marie too vanishes, leaving you alone in front of the blazing star behind you.

Wait, you're accepting more players than you already have? I was under the impression that you were done with selection and I had to wait for a spot to become available.

((Just a reminder that casting two spells in the same turn results in an affinity penalty in the same stat. Moving tunnels around is Redirection as you're manipulating negative energy, while firing your orbital lasers is also redirecting energy, -1 per node. You could spend this a turn ahead of time and fire when needed to evade the penalty (by "configuring" the nodes), but Marie's getting time to make her own moves as well))

I have more than enough character ideas. Time to pick up where I left off when Yourmaster returned.

((Urist Arrhenius is missing and hasn't logged on in 2 weeks. The slot has been open since then. Due to the nature of the game I can drop you off pretty much anywhere in the galaxy, so it's not hard to add new players. I think Urist has probably lost his spot by now though, so if we get to 6 players then he'll have to wait for another person to either drop out or die ingame.))

Turn the claw 360 degrees around and see if when facing any direction, the shaking intensifies. Apart from that, convert some of the furniture nearby into mana, then use that mana to create some kind of gasoline. Form a shield around myself and the other wizard, then condense all of the gas into one point directly adjacent to the debris and then ignite it.

((I'm afraid you don't understand the setting. Mana is a substance that originates in interstellar clouds, and is found mostly in natural places with low gravity. You don't know how to convert furniture into mana, although I'm not explicitly saying it's impossible.

You can make gasoline easily from the carbon in the steel, the water in the air, and the energy running through the ship's power conduits. But the debris is mostly metal and plastic, so simple gasoline might not have the desired effect. There's nitrogen in the air too, though~))

((Um, that's the primary purpose of my nodes. mass-casting simple preloaded spells. energy collection and storage is a secondary function, remember? I set their action and targets earlier.you know, when Marie was auto-evading via size-changing skin rifts without having to roll anything? all I'm sending them now is the activation trigger.  not my fault if she focused on the obvious problem in front of her and not the ones orbiting her planets. I entered combat prep a turn before her. it happens.

I should not be taking a penalty for that.))

((Last turn was when Marie attempted the awkward hug. The point of the "miniroll" was to introduce new information because the other two player's actions were too vague to be counted as actions.

There are many actions which you can do without a roll such as standing in front of the sun without being burned to a crispy mess. For someone of Marie's skill level, casual tunneling is in the same level as speaking to aliens and flying between planets, both of which players have repeatedly done without having to roll first.

Launching an orbital strike in an attempt to exterminate lifeforms is not quite as simple as saying hi to an alien, though. It's something you can't quite do without thinking it through. Marie's casually set up tunnels for a thousand years, so by now it's second nature to her.))
