There's no point to add on the eating bit. It's unnecessary information.

Never heard of a reinforcing byline? People who are quite sure of what they are talking about use them quite frequently. Especially if their conversational partner seems to be mocking them.

First of all gonna have to apologise about this post. I was mildly pissed off when I wrote it, so it could've been worded better or something. Second,

Kitsune aren't very durable. A good smack with a frozen trout will knock one out.

Reinforcement Patterns aren't something a Kitsune gets until tail 4. Same with healing. Technically they could learn it through trial and error, but it's a hell of a lot safer to wait for the instincts to form. Involves less accidentally blowing your arm off.

And technically a human mage is likelier to learn reinforcement magic before a kitsune gets to tail four.

Exactly. Because unlike the Kitsune. The human mage can use normal magic. Kitsune would have to figure out a way to use foxfire for it. Something few Kitsune bother to write down or teach due to the whole "You'll get it when you're older" mindset.
