Sir, if I may... I believe the best way to get these invaders is by night. We can get these men to hide around the enemy camp until the moon is high. We set fire to thick faggots and toss them into the tents. We then slaughter the unsuspecting invaders before they can draw their blades!

((Faggots are bundles of sticks btw))
Have you no honor? That you would murder them whilst they are defenseless? Shame on you.

why is it more honorable to risk more lives? I say these brave men deserve to go home safely, even if our enemies do not. But what is your say, M'lord?

"He's right, m'boy. Honor just wouldn't permit it. Killing men in their sleep is the realm of beasts and monsters, not men like us. We'll face them in a valiant battle on the open field. I have every faith in our men, and so have no need for deception." He was quick to add "Not that I think you're deceptive. It's an admirable suggestion, shows real thinking. Thinking'll get you far, but I think I speak for the men when I say killing in the sleep, there's something off about it."

"To your question of archers, we've got a group of twenty five, and last estimate placed theirs around only thirty. Good odds for us any day!"

Bugger a harpy... Yes, M'lord. Then may I suggest a trident? We have a group of twenty men wait for the invaders to try to capture or kill them. Just before they get close, two groups of... hundred, minus the twenty... Divided.... Forty men surround the enemy.

You are right about the open field. There is no other way about it. We would have to meet each other without defenses.

May I suggest a deal be made between us? The two armies would leave their protection and fight on an open field. I think they would be willing to accept since they have a larger army, and they are the aggressors. They require more resources than we do because they are farther from home. They gain nothing from waiting. If they accept, I have a plan for the archers, if the count would be willing to accept my ide.

"A trident? That might work. A manly weapon. But a mere twenty at the front? That's no vanguard, the enemy won't take them seriously. No, a vanguard of less than sixty simply would not do. We must meet them.

The suggestion of a deal may just work, but I want to hear more. How would you deal with the archers?"

"I doubt they'd attack a group of only 20. With sixty, they may think that's all we have."

They have more archers than us, so I suggest that we pair one soldier with one archer and have the soldier cover them both with a shield while the archer is nocking. That way, our archers would be protected and able to destroy the enemy archers. After the enemy archers are dealt with, we could concentrate our fire upon the enemy unopposed. And the shield soldiers could join the fight.

A hundred minus sixty... That's twenty me for each surprise group... Maybe we use archers for the two groups

Hey Urist, did the C(o)unt refuse my night plan because it's didn't work with your system? Or from an RP perspective? Would I be able to do such insidious plans if I talked with shadier or more ruthless people?

"A mere twenty for each group!? Why must we be so few in number, though brave in heart. Fine, I will take fifty men and hold the front. We will hold them and then the other two flanks will attack. The archers with their guards and another group to come into the fray! The enemy will be taken aback by being surrounded and they will surely rout!"

((Not at all. If you suggest something logical that doesn't fit within my system I just need to change my system to allow for it. He said no because of who he is. And that's not even to say you need to listen to him and do what he says.))

Wonderful, M'lord. Because of my decision to put twenty in danger, I shall join that rank. Cortis, will you share a word with me? Alone?

We are alone now.

Cortis, what in the darkest pit of hell are you doing? Do you want more people dying?

We have just usurped the barony. Our legitimacy in this world is hairline thin. If we want people to recognize our existence, we will have to fight with all the honor and chivalry that others expect of us. If word got around that we slaughter defenseless soldiers in their sleep, than we would have no support from anybody else. This is a bigger issue than it may seem. We need to get our new government some prestige.
