your forgetting that sometimes you need to do the unexpected.

think about it. attacking does have a high chance of getting us killed. so they will be less prepared for us to do something so risky. this raises or chances of success. we are catching them off guard.

They have weapons trained on us. They plan on attacking us if we do not retreat.

true but we are a smaller target, and maybe even faster.

plus, do they honesty think we will try something?

Their original targets were small. And they had more ships and weapons.

Look how that went for them.

And we are an unknown ship of unknown design and power from their perspective.  Why would they not expect something?

Not necessarily. In many a fiction it's the smart guys who get moidud. Look at Starwars.

The empire in starwars held the idiot ball as a collective. It did not go well for them.

Commonly, If you encounter an unknown which you do not know if is safe or dangerous you are going to be quite wary.
I vote for not antagonizing the the conglomerate which currently has a big powerful laser trained on our collective asses.
Being genre savvy in this situation is likely not doing something that defies all reason, There is such a thing as wrong genre savvy after all and i'd rather not take that chance on the offhand chance we are wrong and then proceeds with being obliterated.

I agree, big laser to the face is not good.

They want us to identify ourselves, or else they will immediately shoot us, if we pry into their business instead of identifying ourselves they are going to immediately shoot us

As far as I can tell, the pacifist option is winning. Since there has been a lot of arguing, I'm gonna declare not attacking as the chosen option. So the discussion can now focus on other matters.

What is the message you will send?

Edit: And just to note, I am not fond of anyone metagaming with "we can just die and restart". I don't want to be too harsh, but if endlessblaze continues in that spirit, then I will be ignoring his votes in the future. Wanting better equipment or wanting to take a risk is one thing, but metagaming like that and thinking "lets be so stupid that the plot favors us" is entirely unacceptable, and honestly makes GM-ing this whole thing a bit less fun for me.

Hmmmm what can we identify as?
They obviously aren't messing around here, and this isn't a message, by the way:
>Can we tell if there are any insignias on our ship? Anything that could peg it as part of a certain group, or even it's christened name?

Maybe add something about our reactor being harmed and we had to scavenge to repair the leak.
Also, That we have been in suspended animation for a long time and just woke up having no idea about where we are or whats going on if that technology exists.

>Can we tell if there are any insignias on our ship? Anything that could peg it as part of a certain group, or even it's christened name?

You are carrying the Gaunti Conglomerate reactor you looted from the platforms.
Your bridge is entirely misshappen and cannot be identified.
The reactor + 2 engines wing had the insignia of some sort of bird, and a bit of writing in a script you do not understand.
The jump drive has the same insignia, and some writing you do understand, identifying it as having been made by New Sedna.
Your lasers have no obvious markings, but are identical to the ones held by both the platforms and the losing side of the battle you saw.

(I have deliberate differences in ship design. You might gain some information about the area by comparing all the designs you have seen.)
