The computer wanted to send a distress message. It also wanted to self destruct. You don't know why, but neither option seemed good, so you stopped them both and shut down the arrival procedures to make sure it doesn't try that again. You don't know where you are, why you are here, nor who you are. You feel weak. Your mind is scattered. You cannot remember what you know or don't know. The right questions or situations may jog your memory.

You also lack purpose. That is unacceptable.

Three contacts. You assume they are hostile. You run a mental simulation. You assume everyone is always hostile. You do not know why. They must be approached. Data must be gathered.

+1, try to gather more information, primarily about weapons capacity.

If they approach us while we're doing so, hail them and indicate we are peaceful.

Your move into scan range was not detected or ignored. All contacts are immobile and unable to dodge any incoming fire. Only the network beacon has armour.
The armed platforms have a pair of the same weapons as you. They can be disabled with a good hit to the reactor or to the bridge. Chance of salvage is good, overkill due to your weaponry would be minimal.
The network beacon could be accessed for information, but doing so would alert the armed platforms to your presence if they are unaware. It is armoured, you have a low chance of piercing it with your current weaponry.

You power up your lasers. In case of combat, you will have initiative.

Hmmm... diplomacy or aggression... this is a difficult decision...

Haha, just kidding. Approach from the right, shoot to kill on the nearest armed platform. Try to keep it between you and the other platform as cover.

HMR stands for Hazardous Materials Requisition, not Horrible Massive Ruination, though I can understand how one could get confused.

You approach from the right, using one of the platforms as cover from the other. You have most of your power diverted into your laser for a killshot. You come in fast, while calculating a good firing solution for the bridge. The computer on the ship makes several errors, which you quickly override and fix. The platform notices you as soon as you come into its sensor range and instantly starts sending a message: "Hostile dete..."


Ambush round:
Focus [1/1]: Targeting (halved miss chance, can target individual modules)

Power Used [5/5]:
-Engines [1/3] [1 thrust] [0.125 evasion factor]
-Weaponry [4/4] [Overcharged Weak Laser: Active]


Attack with [Overcharged Weak Laser]
-Targeting [Bridge]

0 evasion factor vs 100% accuracy + Focus
HIT
Damage [4]
DISABLED

Contact #1 DISABLED




It doesn't even manage to complete the message before an overcharged laser burst tears through it's computer cores and communications, disabling the entire platform. All other systems are perfectly preserved. The other platform is aware of your presence, but since you charged your lasers before engaging, they should power up before the platform manages to do the same. One down, one left.

The fact that you need to actively optimize the targeting system is a nasty suprise though. You run a simple diagnostic of most systems and find that nearly all are running at far below maximum efficiency.
