Same contract-drawing and refitting as prior post. Continue to purchase stock in own company with personal funds if and when it comes onto the market, with a 51% owned maximum.

Q4 2015

Check on the solar panel research. Sell a quarter of my unrelated shares and buy up to 20% shares of my company.
Try to be as optimal as possible with the trade offer from the RSS and see what price they offer.
Investigate the disk further. Does it have any interesting specifics? What are the contents?
Research efficient power cells capable of holding a lot of energy for a long time.

[2] Research is still in progress. They have produced plenty of ideas to improve solar panel effectiveness, but have only one prototype in works. It improves effectiveness of solar panels by 20%, but is also more expensive. Power produced per dollar of cost ratio remains same as in existing technologies.

Stocks sold, but people are not selling. You have about 45% of Byzantine Energetics Inc. stocks under your ownership.

(You have to handle RSS deal with Flying Dice)

I assume you rather have your engineers to check out contents of the hard disc than do it completely yourself.
[4] The hard disk contains indeed tehcnologies and theories for renewable energy sources, but all those are only improvements for existing technologies. Solar energy, wind power, hydropower, wave and tidal power and geothermal energy.
[3] Your employees are being smart and deliver data of improved solar power technologies to your engineers working on it. By using data from the disk they manage to finish their prototype. It is 25% more effective than best solar panel in market, and only 15% more expensive.

[5] Engineers now focus on improving power cells.

Personal financial situation:
Economic collapse cuts your dividends in half!

End year company finances:
Electricity - This year was pretty good. Both revenue and profit rates raised despite of economic collapse at Q4.
Oil - Likewise oil sales went up. Increased expenses however ate part of profits, so improvements wasn't that much really.
Coal - Production increased slightly from Q3 but market is moving away from coal. This year coal trade results 300 million deficit.

Revenue from this year didn't change, but profits dropped from 2.75 billion to 1.8 billion USD.

Spoiler: Sophia Papanous (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Notes (click to show/hide)

Have my staff figure out systems of aquaponics suitable for shipboard use. It's for a good cause. I can also spot them a whole lot of money for it, so there's that. If that lies outside the competence of my staff, seek appropriate specialists elsewhere.

[1] It lies outside of competence of your staff. [6] You hire highly qualified people working on it. You had to promise large wages in order to get them.
[5] They start working right away. You hear that by end of year they already have promising test enviroment set up.

Personal financial situation:
Economic collapse really cuts into your dividends, but stocks manage to keep their value.

End year company finances:
Revenue increased by 2 billion this year, but profits went down by one.

Spoiler: Codeine Ogudi Korir (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Notes (click to show/hide)

Find trade contracts, and make a deal for the self-reapiring metals, tell them it isn't made yet though.

[1] Nobody is interested of pharmaceuticals company expanding into experimental metal production. You have to find other mining companies. Hmm, didn't Herwald Rasmussen's company deal with metals?

[1] Greenpeace organizes large protests in your factory grounds completely halting progress.

Personal financial situation:
Economic collapse drops value of your stocks down to 1.3 billion USD and halves dividends on this quarter.

End year company finances:
Pharmaceuticals - Despite of worldwide economical collapse profits drop by half billion USD. Otherwise numbers are same as last year.
Kitchen appliances - This is where economical collapse really feels. Revenue dropped by 4 billion and profits gained negative prefix.
D Store - No matter the situation, people do need to take care of their health. D Store is doing fine.

In light of final numbers Dharma Inc. did pretty well this year.

Same contract-drawing and refitting as prior post. Continue to purchase stock in own company with personal funds if and when it comes onto the market, with a 51% owned maximum.

[5, 1, 2] USA power company wins bidding by large margin and their expertise in shipboard reactors is notably better than others.

The contract is roughly like this:
 1. Rasmussen Steel Services grants to the power company non-exlusive licence to produce land-based fusion reactors.
 2. Power company must desing and build two variants of shipboard fusion reactor.
 3. Power company must not redistribute technology received from Rasmussen Steel Services.
 4. Power company must pay royalties of profits made using Rasmussen Steel Services fusion power technology.

Exact numbers of the contract is still in air, but will be finalized soon. The nameless power company will start development immediately.

[5] Three of your shipyards already have large enough dry docks. Two are repaired to ensure quality of work and safety of employees, third one must wait for current ship construction to finish before repairs can be done. Three other shipyards are refitted with larger dry docks.

[5] Collapse of economics ensure you can easily purchase stocks for dirt cheap. Unfortunately this means value of Rasmussen Steel Services stocks is quite low. 51% ownership archieved.

Personal financial situation:
Like mentioned, value of your stocks are down to grass and dividends are fully dependant of profits your company. Speaking of devil...

End year company finances:
Mining - This year was good. Revenue didn't improve, but profits did.
Shipbuilding - Shipbuilding is facing hardships, pun intended. Profits and revenue both dropped, profits even down to negatives.

In overall numbers dropped a little.

((Since you own stocks only from your own company I had to actually calculate stuff, good for you. RNG doesn't hold so much power over your income anymore.))

Spoiler: Herwald Rasmussen V (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Notes (click to show/hide)

NEWS:
Financial:
World economy is revealed to be a bubble. People are selling their stocks in panic trying to rescue their money.

Political:
"Golden age in my ass." as one of leading societal scientist says it rather colorfully. North Korea declares war on USA and Japan and rekindles war with South Korea. Africa is burning with missile fire. Relations between Russia and USA are coldest since World War II and are racing to declare trade embargoes on each others allies. NATO is pulling its forces into almost full readiness, and nobody likes that.

Meteorological:
Nobody is paying attention to weather when everybody is getting ready to next world war. Unnaturally warm winter on northern hemisphere prevents growth of polar ice cap. Likewise the hot southern summer hastens melting on Antartica.

Korir examines the morning newspaper, tsking at the poor grammar of the societal scientist. He considers briefly the possibility that he may have misread the statement. Perhaps the man's microflora had experienced an unusual upswing. Was this the nutrition magazine he had picked up by accident?

How's that missile fire doing? Moreover, why is somebody hitting Africa? Is it North Korea with their 1.5 nukes and 3.2 intercontinental ballistic missiles (ballpark estimates)? Or is it Americans having a giggle again? Can't imagine the likes of the Democratic Republic of the Congo attracting much in the way of missiles, or even US attention, honestly. Maybe Libya, but they fucked that place up pretty soundly already. Sudan? Egypt? Africa's kind of a big place. Did everybody declare war on each other already or something?

Anyhow, how's Kenya right now? Getting hit with anything in particular?

Purchase myself a rather large ship. Something like a cruise ship, but strip out some of the living quarters to make room for other things. Just as a contingency, naturally. Consult Mr. Rasmussen for a good pick - nothing too advanced, of course, but good enough as sort of lifeboat ark for a couple of years.

Also, keep tabs on the aquaponics research. Pour some more money into the project if it continues to make good progress, as it is quite important and (though don't tell anyone this) money isn't exactly going to be useful two years from now.

Purchase myself an expansive bunker in Kenya as well - see if it's possible to make it indefinitely airtight. A more fanciful project, of course.

Finally, make sure to keep my fellow zillionaires posted on what projects I'm currently developing as well as on how the aquaponics project is doing - especially notify Mr. Rasmussen, so he can consider the aquaponics systems in his own arkship designs.

Try to find trade contracts  again, and speak to the protesters.

For your information, I'm going here by rule that rolling 1 is a failure and has long term effects. In this case, you'll have hard time finding any contracts. And if you do, it's probably expensive or low quality.

Introduce the new solar panels on the market.
Try to sell the upgraded solar panels to the company making the Ark.
Aggresively seek to buy 6% of my company's shares.
Make my scientists work on thinking about a primitive hydro engine capable on being ship mounted.

That other external hard disk, the damaged one(?) with the information not related to nuclear fusion. Find some experts, contract them with NDAs, get that data extracted.

Continue shifting infrastructure into line for production of arkships.

It was a chain reaction. One terrorist/religious/criminal/para-military group, nobody knows exactly which one, used their smuggled missiles, then another nearby figured to exploit the situation and unloaded their toys. And in next country similar groups had same bright idea and soon everybody and their cousins were shooting with their full arsenal.

Kenya is actually only nation where situation is under control. Their military is making strong case to make use of the chaos and expand borders.

[1] You spend 500 millions to purchase a old cruise ship. The illiterate workers misunderstand the orders and go into full deconstruction mode. By time your hear about what they are doing it is already too late. Your new cruise ship is now useless pile scrap metal, completely beyond any repairs.

[3] Scientists are testing their desing. It's slow and boring progress to watch cycle of resources, and scientists want to use genetic manipulation to increase effectiveness and speed of food production. Approve?

[5] You purchase old military bunker carved into Mount Kenya and hire some qualified workers into the case. It is easily converted into airtight, but you probably want to install more air filtering systems if you want it to survive the flood. So far 300 million dollars used on this project.

Personal financial situation:
Income from dividends keeps dropping rapidly, but value of stocks don't drop as much as is expected in current situation.

Does this include the factory as well? If not then:
[3] Activists keep harassing workers but the work gets done at least. It should be ready for production in four months.

[1] Like Korir, you too have misfortune in your business. The boat you purchase is actually completely rotten and unusable. To make situation worse, the small print is trade papers prevent you from taking any legal action to pursue refund. 250 millions lost.

Personal financial situation:
Dividends remain suprisingly stable, but stocks are now near worthless paper.

[4] The market loves your new solar panels. Business is relatively good compared to overall situation.

[1] Rasmussen Steel Services are not yet purchasing those. They are interested where from you heard about their plans. Guess Herwald didn't fill them in...

[4] Stocks purchased. You now own 51% of your company.

[3] Your scientists stare you for long time in complete silence before they finally assing few guys working on it.

[6] Research on efficient power cells is finished. Scientists happily introduce new battery desing: It has longer lifetime, it can be charged faster, it can store larger amount of electricity and it takes less space. Only real downside is that materials used in it are more hazardous than usual, but it only becomes problem when the battery is damaged.

Personal financial situation:
Despite of bad economical situation your net worth only grows.

The hard disk that was damaged was the one containing data of fusion reactor. Data in it was extracted long time ago. The other one contained data of desanilization plants.

[1] Remaining shipyard is experiencing problems and can't be refitted for a while.

You receive patents and wide array of knowledge about self-repairing metals.

[1] The USA power company you made contract with is complaing about the data being corrupted. As reimbursement they want change the contract so they'll have exclusive rights to produce and build fusion reactors based on your data, otherwise they will take it into court.

North Korea's declaration of war turned out to be usual trash talking, but this time they received a harsh reminder that such things won't be tolerated in future again.
In overall things are calming down. Trade embargos are still in effect, but nations are talking about remove them.

Point out to the aquaponics guys that their job isn't to genetically modify anything, but rather to figure out a viable shipboard aquaponics system. Thus it's more reasonable to pass off the genetic modification stuff to my wonderful and qualified staff, who will supply the aquaponics specialists with as current a knowledge of the field as they require for their systems, and conduct semi-independent tests with appropriate cultures.

Speaking of my GM staff, question them about potential advances to be had with the 10-year-leap in knowledge we have obtained from the manual provided by our nefarious overlords.

Ah, and release information about the aquaponics models we have already developed to the scientific public. Could come in handy for them, though don't tell them this.

Furthermore, check the bunker.

To Herwald Rasmussen:
My company owns several engines, batteries and solar panels, all compatible with each other (right?) that would be extremely useful for the Ark. The price is 750, 000, 000$, the right to appoint 20% of the passengers and the privilege of having control over the engine section of the ship.

Hire engineers for a long contract for working on a ship, train them in my engine mainteance and service. Use my personal cash stash.
Hire some competent mercenaries too, use them for guarding my electricity plants for now.
Inform the Rasmussen Steel Services shareholders that Byzantine Energetics would like to start cooperating further.

Negotiate. Allow them to leave the contract with a signed agreement to not make use of anything they've learned -- their competitors will be more than happy to have the opportunity to one-up them. Alternatively, they'll just have to deal -- this is the best we have to work with. Offer a concession that removes the payment of royalties to my company from the contract, requiring only that they design our reactors and do not redistribute the technology.

Secretly open talks with the other two companies, inform them that the U.S. company is getting cold feet because the data is not as extensive as they want, and that a good offer could see the first contract going to one of their companies instead. Offer the same contract sans royalties.

Continue work on shipyards, construction, &c.

Open negotiations regarding Byzantine's solar panel technology -- invite their engineers to examine the plans and work with our own to design arrays for the ark-ships.
