Right.

Also, can't even join games anymore because on the loading screen, I get kicked for being idle.

We need the number next to your name to friend you, I think. I dunno, though.

Also, got some actual playtime on my brother's xbox, bc apparently Blizzard is fixing the infinite loading screen.

But, I have found that my two mains are D.va and Mei. I'm better as D.va, but that may just be because I've had more practice.

McCree is bullshit.  Very little health but his dodge reloads and fanning the hammer twice is enough to kill even tanks.
Mcree is kinda like the pyro if the pyro wasn't awful.  He loves being close to enemies, but he has no good tools to accomplish that aim.  Unlike the pyro tho Mcree *definitely* outdamages his enemies if he can get close to them.

Well, the open beta weekend worked. After putting in a few good hours I have decided I like the game enough to get it.

Same for me.

I played it a tonne though. Got to like level 25 or something.

It's good but I don't like a lot of things.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
I suspect if I bought this, I'd get bored of it very soon. Actually, I'd probably get bored of it by the time this open beta ends. Don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed it. But I wish there was more to enjoy. It feels kinda like TF2 at launch.

I can definitely see the complaints against Overwatch.  They're setting it up to provide a very specific experience, which is competitive 10 minute 6v6 matches.  If you aren't having fun with that they haven't provided a solid casual alternative.  The wlidcard mode is a pretty laughable alternative since its still competitive 6v6 just with all balance thrown out the window.  The only real defense I would offer is that they have so many interesting (to me) classes that within the framework of the game you can have a lot of variety.

I do miss TF2 servers where you can dick around high fiving your engi in between fights.  But then, despite what the internet would say, Overwatch isn't TF2.

The pyro is a close combat specialist in a game where every single source of damage *except* their afterburn gets stronger as you get closer.  There's a reason Valve kept giving the pyro secondary options that are way stronger than their base kit.

2. The team sizes are too small and you can't have a relaxing game where you can faff off and do whatever you want. If one person sucks on your team, the game gets so much harder.

3. I seriously doubt the matchmaking algorithm. Constantly you get 5 - 6 man premades versus teams of solos. I know levels are just a measurement of how long someone has played but yesterday we saw a whole lot of level 2 - 7 versus our premade of level 20 - 40. I may like winning, but I think stomping every single game is a bit excessive.

6. A lot of the map designs leave a lot to be desired. I think there's way too much walking involved especially considering how fast people die in this game. When you're getting stomped you will spend way more time walking than doing anything else. Sure you can pick Symmetra and get a teleporter, but her teleporter is her ultimate...

2: I'm pretty sure they are trying to push the whole esports bullcrap which is why teams are so limited. There's less time for the "pros" to showboat if it's 12v12 or whatever.

3. Matchmaker is probably broken because of open beta, no time for the MMR to spread out, low player count, etc. But yeah - it sucks, I'd guess ~50% of my games have ended with one team or the other locked in spawn because it's spawncamped by a drastically superior team. Matchmaking (instead of server-based system) is also worse because you can't swap teams to even the skill gap out or to even the teams if people leave, so you end up with a lot of games that are just a waste of everyone's time.

6. I agree, most of the maps just feel bad. Long walks to get to the front line, then it's usually super easy to lock down the point.. especially with heroes like bastion who vaporize you in something like 0.05 seconds if you don't realize he's there when you turn the corner. So you end up throwing yourself at the enemy team over and over, dying over and over, and spending more time walking than playing. Again - I think it's because it's designed for "esports" and people playing competitively, not for random people just having fun.

Ultimately I think it will be successful because people will buy anything with blizzard's name on it, but it's never going to be a huge hit like TF2 was (is?). Most players are not esports "pros" and will be turned off by the game being designed and balanced around that.

I don't really plan on buying it, but a lot of my friends are so I might end up getting it anyway because of peer pressure but meh, it's ok but it's not $40 good imo.

I figured it out.  Tracer is Fizz.

Flashy mobile hero for le ebin playz on twitch, makes you feel like you're a pro and provides easy commentary when they inevitably try to make this an esport, but in reality everything in her kit is designed to forgive her for stupid mistakes, so she's actually really easy at most levels of play.

Just like Fizz.

I figured it out.  Tracer is Fizz.
My comparison is Puck but yeah.  Tracer is highly (horizontally) mobile, has ability based defenses that make her really hard to kill, but on the other hand she has low impact.  Her guns are decent but her abilities do nothing to the enemy team.  You have to play her very aggressively or the enemy team will literally heal themselves faster than you can damage them.  If you ever want to not be annoyed with Tracer, play Mei.  You can literally 1-shot her with a close range headshot, or 2-shot her with bodyshots, and you can regen a whole clip of Tracer damage way at the touch of a button.

I'm not sure whether or not Tracer will see use with the pros.  A big part of her use is causing annoyed players to bleed off from the main body of the team futilely trying to chase her down.  A disciplined team might be able to ignore her and complete the objective, or nuke her down so fast she has no hope of recalling.

Alright, nerds, let's stomp some pubs!
I can probably get on in like an hour.

Is Pharah ridiculously overpowered, or am I just having ridiculous amounts of beginner's luck?
I just picked her because she looked like one of the least-lame characters on offer, but I've been getting 30-40 kill streaks in my first few games, after not even doing the tutorial (seriously, what kind of shitty excuse for a tutorial starts with cutscenes and dialogue? Jesus).

Edit: Oh yeah, and I don't know if any of you guys are playing the PS4 version, but if you are my PSN is Rocket_Carrot.
Might as well make the most of the open beta whilst it's still going.
