I haven't had any terribly bad terrain popin. Certainly nothing that put me in any danger.

Are reapers less aggressive? They certainly seem to be in my experience. I've had to get a lot closer to them in my seamoth before they seem to get aggro'd.

Honestly, I find copper far rarer than gold relative to the amount you need.

And fuck warpers. I was runnign a hardcore game. A warper teleported me out my sub and then a few seconds later I can only assume I spontaneously exploded as I died without anything nearby capable of it. It wasn't the warper - I was looking at it - and there wasn't anything else nearby.

Reapers are honestly a bit funny. Sometimes they'll aggro from way far away and will hunt you down (they're better about not diving into the seabed to launch surprise attacks from the ground these days), sometimes they'll just faff about and ignore you until you pretty much run into them. There are plenty of theories as to why this seems to be the case, but I don't have any verified info for you.

See, the thing with copper is that it depends a lot on how lucky you are with getting the necessary fragments for battery and power cell rechargers. If you can't find enough fragments in short order, you'll find yourself stocking up on a lot of spare batteries/cells, which ends up eating through copper rather quickly. There's also the case for how many beacons you use for things, which is dependent on your playstyle and sense of direction, heh...

As for the warper, are you sure there weren't any other warpers involved? Sometimes a group of them will get interested in you all at the same time, so one yoinks you out of the vehicle and the others pull a Caesar on you with their stabby appendages. Happened to me before, I died before the warping graphic could fade.

The warping itself also does a small amount of damage, so if you were at low health it might've been enough to finish you off.

I had this happen too. I assumed it was because I was shifted into lava.

...stuff.

Pop-in is still there, but the only examples I've seen are lod switching. Never had anything spawn around my character.

Marblemelons are still the go-to choice for revitalising at base, however, carrying prepared food and water on a journey is way more efficient.

Cyclops energy drain may be due to a leech? And to be honest, I've never bothered with torpedoes. Swim like fuck!

Resources are plentiful enough without relying on respawns, although it can be a bit of a lottery when breaking nodes. This all goes away with the Prawn. Gold is fucking abundant though.

Not sure how people are completing the game without being infected, as you start the game with an infection level.

Save mechanics are not great, but I hail from a time when I had to save my progress on a cassette tape so it isn't a massive issue to me. No excuse for lack of autosave though, even if it is just occasional inventory logging.

The marblemelon thing was more just comparing it to other farming plants, particularly the other indoor plants like potatoes and lantern fruit, which you get at the same time. The only real argument is for lantern fruit, if you have a little low-power outpost somewhere with a bioreactor, since you can just plant one tree in a pot and have 20+ fruits for some basic power. Melons still give about 50% more power per tile occupied in the reactor, but you have to replant them and such.

And nah, leeches were ruled out. There's just this weird, intermittent power-draining bug for the Cyclops now. Not sure what's causing it, but multiple people have noticed an inexplicable power drain on the sub. Only real way to secure yourself against it is the same as for leeches; remove all the cells from the engine before exiting the sub.

Not sure how people are completing the game without being infected, as you start the game with an infection level.

Actually, you don't! It seems the Kharaa bacterium is actually some sort of quantum disease, as its status is altered by observing it.

Basically, if you don't scan yourself upon first building the scanner, you won't activate the first stage of the infection. If you don't listen to the Sunbeam's broadcast (and thus start the timer), you won't activate the second stage. If you don't push the button at the QEP, you won't activate the next stage (when warpers start attacking you) of the infection.

The only stage you can't really avoid when completing the game is

but it's entirely possible to stockpile almost everything you need to get yourself cured within a very short time of activating that stage of the infection, thus minimizing your time spent dealing with warper aggression.

I played it early on in EA and loved it, but decided to wait till it came out before trying it again. Absolutely fantastic - there are a few minor issues (saves/bugs) but it's really good fun.

My only issue is that there's a lot of storage juggling. That's sort of ok to start off with, but it quickly gets a bit tedious.

So, new information! Blood oil apparently has been given a bioreactor value, and it's not that bad, all things considered. Still nowhere near having a fish farm full of reginalds, but it's something.

Y'know, now you've got me wondering. I could've sworn there was something you needed in order to complete the questline, but it's been too long since I've played it myself (and that was pre-1.0), so now I'm not so sure. Wiki seems to support the idea that you don't necessarily need to go there, but the wiki is rather outdated at the moment.

Oh, yes, and as another info tidbit... You can use fish as basically a kind of "health buffer". While stalkers are the only species intelligent enough to actually like you and reward you for feeding them, if you're holding a fish when another predator tries to attack you then they'll eat the fish instead of damaging you. This doesn't have any real "grace period" of non-hostility, it just negates that one attack. Yes, this works against reapers, for some inconceivable reason.

Note: Don't attempt to use the fish shield against a reaper if you're already below 80% of your max health... The grab instakill will trigger regardless of whether or not you're holding a fish.

To be fair, that's a pretty common sentiment when playing Subnautica.

Okay the perimeter defense system for the seamoth is the best thing ever. It just sends everything running. Even the reapers can't handle it.

Sure it takes a little power but not much.

Yeah, the PDS is pretty amazing. And you can use it pretty much constantly if you have the completely-balanced solar generator installed on the 'moth (which stack with themselves, by the way), along with the sonar. Don't know if they've changed it, but two charged blasts from the PDS will kill a boneshark, and considering the range of a fully-charged blast, you can generally get anywhere from 2-5 of them at a time.

The Seamoth solar module is pretty crazy... Even just the one will recharge a power cell faster than a base-mounted charger can. Stacking 4 of them on it will let you flash-charge any power cells you have in your inventory by just letting them sit in the Seamoth for a few moments, which gives you a pretty funny (if rather clunky) method of refilling the Cyclops engine's cells when you're on a longer trip.
