Looks fun

Too bad this game hits my phobia of deep water... it scares the bejebus out of me.

If you're looking for a preview on what to expect, Frankie did a fairly honest ~15min intro video.

Neonivek, you might want to skip this part and this part if it's partially the critters that get you.

Mind you I might give in because of the sheer novelty.

It does look pretty cool, but I'll wait until it's out of early access.

Shame it isn't multiplayer. Some aspects of it would seem really cool if other people were playing with you.

Kind of the big thing actually.

Agh, the terror of the deeps is too much. I'm gonna buy it, be back in a while with preliminary thoughts.

Okay, so here's the down-low. At the moment it's still pretty bare-bones; you putter around at >30m collecting everything you need for your first Seamoth, which takes maybe 2-3 hours at most. Once you've got that, you putter around in your Seamoth collecting enough materials for the bigger sub. So tl;dr it's Waterworld Minecraft until they get more content in. Fuck that. That's not how you play. Here's how you play:

1. Get yourself that Seamoth.

2. Dive, dive, dive.

At around 100m you'll start seeing new and freaky forms of life. I won't spoil it for you.

At around 200m the life stops. Everything is sand and occasional outcroppings of rock.

At around 300m you start hearing freaky sounds. Your hull will start to creak.

At a kilometer and a half below the surface I caught sight of something pale and thin rising from the depths below. As I hit F12 to take another picture, the game crashed.

10/10 would be spooked again.

I find it weird how ready you are for the water... I mean you start the game in a diving suit.

Though it is a Beta... and even if it wasn't the explanation of "You fabricated the right clothes" is easy enough.

But part of me feels like you should start the game off completely unprepared.

Could be a partial pressure suit. A helmet of air is a reasonably sensible thing to have in space, after all.

Did you watch the intro? You were part of a crew of a terraforming ship specifically headed for the water-world. Hence, crew probably have been issued wetsuits, and the escape pods would almost certainly have them as well. Same reason why the escape pod was built with floaties on the bottom.

It's actually an All-Environment-Protection (AEP) suit, all pods are equipped with them.

Could be a partial pressure suit. A helmet of air is a reasonably sensible thing to have in space, after all.
Official art shows goggles and a breathing mask, but the radiation suit is a full helmet. In-game though, using "freecam" to see yourself shows that the player model has no head.

The Aurora was originally meant to build a new Phasegate, which is presumably space-based. They did have a secondary mission to perform S&R for members of the Degasi; though that wasn't told to most crew members.

As the Aurora was shot down mid-slingshot maneuver, it's fair to say the immediate scan of the area showed no survivors, and the ship was on the way out.

Also, there's that bug that causes a memory leak that can only be fixed by deleting a certain file.
That's been fixed in the experimental version.

Don't use floating storage lockers.

They ate three full loads of materials before I realized I was missing things.

Also, how do you fight stalkers? And is there a good technique to quickly catch fish?
