Chaotic skies takes a repeating rifle from one of the remaining injured and goes on watch, scanning for anything unusual.

The group of survivors, thirty of them, is in a slight hollow about sixty meters from the old fortress walls. Several Arrow impact sites are visible from here, but none of them are close enough to pose a clear threat. Dead Zha's fireball continues to rise and spread, slowly losing its golden hue to a more usual gamut of orange, gray, and red. Its distance is a little hard to gauge, with the sheer scale causing issues of perspective, but it looms enough, while not being so wide as to imply truly absurd size that it can't be more than a few kilometers away, five at the most. The general area of the dying Dancer's flight-path is spattered with some kind of golden fluid, likely the being's Ichor.

There were about sixty dwarves in the courtyard during the event, so it can be expected that around half of them are dead, many of them soldiers. Patham and the few other wounded seem stable enough, but the two woundbinders continue to meddle. Lord Porky and his small group seem to want to talk.

The cavern work teams continue to swarm around the dam machinery, checking for any signs of damage. Elagn, along with two of the guards and half a dozen workers, runs back along the cleared bank of the ravine, looking for whatever caused the stoppage.

As suspected, a large boulder has fallen from the ceiling to block the river. It appears to have hit just to the right of the ravine, shattering the lip of it and carrying with it a considerable pile of rubble and underbrush. The river is slowly building up behind it. Allowing enough water to simply break past the natural dam to flood along the channel and strike the buildsite would be disastrous.

Mayor Murdoc, in the midst of building a team of miners to breach the chosen escape tunnel, encounters His Lordship in the tunnel, who seems to have rallied the Military.

"I see you've taken it upon yourself to breach our defenses entirely. Ah well, the causes of ethics and curiosity both must be satisfied. You may consider me to be in agreement."

The Noble, followed by some forty of his Elite troopers and two ten-ranks of musket-Infantry, comes into rank beside the miners.

The mining team quickly sets to their task, carving through the three meters of rock defending them from the unknown Outside within about three-quarters of an hour.

Spoiler: Murdoc (click to show/hide)

Try to organize an effort to clear at least some of the wreckage and relieve pressure; use the crane made earlier in the construction, also, open all openings on the dam, to allow any sudden pressure to be released as easily as possible.

Tell the other dwarves to not mess with anything that glows, and continue mining.

A runner is dispatched along the river bank to bring help and warn the dam workers, leaving Elagn with five workers and two soldiers. They begin using improvised levers to pry at the debris, given that the crane is nonmobile. One of the soldiers brought a stick of dynamite, which might be used effectively if a hole was opened into the debris pile.

The Mayor's group smashes through the last of the stone, breaking out into a little box canyon on the backside of the mountain.  All sixty Elite Guards, with twenty Musketeers backing them up, pour through the gap the instant the miners move aside, forming a defensive cordon at the mouth of the canyon, with five of the more skilled marksdwarves and their crudely rifled guns clambering to the top of the canyon walls for an overwatch.

Behind the specialist soldiers, another forty or so dwarves, largely Light Infantry with a smattering of Settlers, Woundbinders and Serf workers with improvised weapons, file out of the gap. The Serfs set up a portable steel door against the hole even as the Miners finish roughly squaring the edges, hammering pylons into the canyon wall and bending them over to lock it in place. The Light Infantry stick the butts of their spears into the ground at the canyon mouth to create a crude barricade, then begin using their earthworking axes to build simple fortifications from the dry dirt and gravel.

The Settlers and Woundbinders await Mayoral orders to begin the trek around to the original fortress entrance, in hope of survivors, or perhaps a slightly more positive impression of the damage than at first.
