The group of survivors is forced to change position when Chaotic Skies' watchfulness spots a secondary landslide developing, which buries their original refuge minutes after they leave it.
Porkins returns to the group with news of the shattered arrow's seemingly endless heat.
The dam workers manage to pry several large boulders loose of the pile, exposing an internal hollow, into which the soldier throws his stick of dynamite on a long fuse. A moment after he reaches cover, it detonates, throwing water and mud everywhere with a deafening crack and the flash of an explosion brighter than the crude fungiwood torches the workers use outside the range of the electric limelight. As the group scrambles back to the edge of the canyon, the build up of water behind the dam finds thousands of flaws and exploits them with all force, tearing it apart and throwing more muddy water everywhere. A considerable wall of water sluices down the narrow ravine with a huge roar, tearing vegetation and loose rocks from the sides of the thing as it goes.
Murdoc's group makes its cautious way around the mountain, avoiding the occasional patch of gold-spattered gravel. During the trip, the Homelander gunsmith approaches Murdoc:
"We've been using the new alloy steel from the dam for our projects, managed to get a prototype working. Thought you might want something better than those damn revolvers if we run into anything dangerous."
He hands the Mayor what appears to be a less terrifyingly crude variation upon the Rattler submachine gun, with a slightly wider magazine and highly polished steel components, rather than the uneven gray iron of the original.
"We managed to get most everything gasketed up, should slow down gunk buildup, and since it fires slower now and has a stronger bolt, we upped the cartridge charge. Should serve you well."
At that point, the group comes across a veritable pool of the golden ichor-stuff, slowly losing its glow. One of the Settlers suggests retrieving some in a flask so the researchers can take a look at it later.
