Casters are still ridiculously powerful in comparison to "mundanes", particularly with the new cantrip rules (the aforementioned Flamebolt does damage like a greatsword, gains new extra damage dice at the same pace Fighters gain new attacks (and only Fighters get that many new attacks, all other warrior classes only get one extra attack), with a range of 120, which is longer than the range of every ranged weapon except the longbow). Fighters are still mostly useless, except maybe for the specialisation that's half caster. Bards rule supreme.

So basically, the caster-mundane combat power divide is bigger than ever, but mundanes at least get about the same amount of skills and such (I think) - even Fighters, so they still have some out-of-combat application.

Eeh. I'd disagree about the divide being "as big as ever." It's still there, but CoDzilla isn't a thing any more, and an optimized wizard can't solve a high-level encounter with one turn backed by sufficient prep time.

All they really need to do now is add in some more material that allows for heavier optimization along the lines of old chargers, trippers, and masochists, and melee combatants will have a much better share of things. Casters get their base damage with more limited fancy stuff, mundanes should have a similar dynamic (though to a certain extent they already do).

Of course it's also highly dependent on the DM. If every encounter is a 15 minute work day and casters don't need to worry much about resource management, they're a lot better off than if there's 2-3 encounters between rests.

Speaking of which, do you guys think that the duelist lancer approach was a good idea? The pole arm great weapon dude seems better at higher levels  but I wasn't sure if we were going to get that far... What do you guys think? I'm still really stuck between them, I was swaping them back and fourth on my sheet last night. Although it might be too late now anyway.

It just occurred to me, but in 5e you practically have to be an elf if you want to be a necromancer. Rather than the old hard-limit of 4 HD of undead per caster level, it's based on daily upkeep; undead aren't under your control until destroyed, they must be rebound every 24h by recasting your spells, which holds for every necromantic spell of that type I saw in the PHB. So if you've got a decent force of undead, you're burning pretty much every spell slot to maintain them. The only real way to get around this (without sleeping 16 hours per day) is to be an elf; when the rest of the party sleeps, you trance for 4h, use your spell slots for undead upkeep, trance for another 4h and have your spell slots for the day's adventuring.

Geez. Unless I completely misread and misremembered all of those spells.

It does theoretically mean a much larger cap on undead if you use all of your spell slots as a high level wizard and trance twice plus a third trance for your active-use spells for a total of 12h long rest per day, though.

"Merely admiring the armour for a blink. Fine work. There a tale behind that, metal-shaper?"

You remind yourself that until you agree on a price, it's unlikely the Dwarf will satisfy your curiosity. Nothing is free, after all.
Patience, oh GM, things had to be done.

Hmm. I was hoping upgrading would be both cheap and quick. Damn greedy dwarves.

To be fair, there are several different hooks. KJ already picked up one of them, now Akira just needs to muster the courage to mention bandit-killing for fun and profit to someone else.

Besides, I'd have been unfaithful to my character's character if Samara actually cared enough to ask about the business of some nobody in a crappy little village when there wasn't any obvious gain in it. She assumed that the stock always looked like that because merchants only rarely came through and Risey was too busy mooning over crackpots trying to combine arcane and divine spells to collect any herbs herself.  :P

Eh. That worked out pretty well, regardless of the intent. Give it a couple pages more and we'll all be back together, with a good read both on the central plot and on the sidequest hooks.

In the shopkeepers eyes, no one else was ever going to buy them. :p The only way he makes money is if fools buy the pearls needed to identify them.
