Perhaps the Hero can PM the mod who they think the Lover is, so if the clone chooses that person to deflect the kill onto, the Hero blocks it?

The Hero can change their mind on who they think the Lover is whenever they want.

Maybe give one player at random (not the hero but include the lover) a bullet proof vest for one shot so who ever it hits doesn't give their identity

Interesting ideas. For now, I'm just going to include the Best Friend (aka Best Man) role and see how things go.

Best Friend - On the Hero's team. Knows who the Lover is.
