Everything is going fine! I'm halfway through adv mode now.

...I'm so sorry, by the way...your tower was very nice, and the dwarves inside seemed pleasant enough...in another life, my adventurer and them would have been friends...sorry bob. :(

No problems.  There weren't any of the Goodbrews Clan left at the Tower after the goblins got finished with 'em last month.  Of course, if the last of the Goodbrews have been assassinated, that means that the next Council of Doom will have to vote in one of the Minor Clans to take its place as one of the Big Five.  That may mean that you'll be dealing with another Forii soon enough, unless neither of them answer the call to participate. (In which case, My new Clan will have two years to set up a new Clan-home and yours will just have to suffer the depredations of the goblins while they do.)

Heh heh heh... Dwarves killing dwarves...  I expect some interesting loyalty cascades will soon rear their heads from this action.

All in good fun.

Wha....?  OK, I'll go check it out.

Ok, hahahaha... The save isn't bugged.  There's a trick to getting into the underground part of the fortress is all.  Study the tower more closely and you may find your way in.  I think I remember digging some other little camouflaged hidey holes around there too, for forestry workers, herbalists and the like who get caught outside when a Big Bad comes along and the main gate is too far away.  Of course, some of those have been specifically set up to trap unwary intruders who may come sneaking in with the idea that they'll kill all of the dorfs. (Or was that another fortress... I don't remember.)
 ;)

Nope.

I think it's the same bug where vampires get stuck in the walls in sewers?  I was messing around with it, and some combination of sleep/leaving/returning managed to offload/reload the site so the dwarves were back to wondering around the fortress and not stuck underground, but then the game crashed and I can't remember what I did.

Does anyone know a fix?

Well, send a crash report in, then maybe not attempt to visit the place until the place is unretired once more.

First the museum game, now this one: (why do my games always seem to break just as they get started?)  Well, we'll just muddle through and see what happens, k?

Come to the tower, enjoy a therapeutic mud bath while you sample our delicious delicacies and sip our fragrant wines...

Here you go!

Word of advice: Save often, and do not sleep at forts.

The Goodbrews and Wrathwells are all but extinct.  I didn't have enough time to track them all down. :(

The second battle, "The Siege of Horns", 13 goblins attacked Castle Valleynet, but also quickly retreated when their war-leader was slain, this was a distraction however, for Castle Valleynet was soon after conquered by the Goblins of The Stirred Thief led by Neba Messbound AKA: "The Defective Tool" and all 14 dwarven defenders were slain.  "The Defective Tool" appointed himself governor of Castle Valleynet and named his new government "The Weak Plague".

Endok Peacefulbronze is crowned King of The Lush Fortification, beginning a new dynasty.  His seat of power is the Hillock of Bentshot.

Year 22

A kobold hero named Klocholin Whipcloses, (AKA:"The Brazen Luster of Walks"), attempted to gain entry to Cagearmors and was slain, but only after the defenders lost 13 of their number.  Rumors of a cave fishman accomplice who was also slain have been making the rounds, however.

Year 25
Nothing noteworthy happened in the Dwarven Realms

Year 26
The Wrathwell Clanhome of The Pit of Spite is founded http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=148224.msg6091121#msg6091121

A part of "The War of Hatchets": In a battle named "The Angry Assaults", the goblins of The Stirred Thief set their sights on The Windy Tower of Drinking.  32 goblins attacked the Winehammers, but retreated once their war-leader was slain, with the defenders suffering no losses.  Once again, the 31 remaining goblins attempted to crush The Tower, this time led by a dwarf named Kumil Stakeshaft, but to no avail.  His "Angry Onslaught" turned once more into a hasty retreat once Stakeshaft was slain.  A third time the goblins attacked 32 strong, this time slaying a single defender before their war leader was slain and they retreated in hasty disorder once more.

Year 27
The attacks on The Windy Tower continue: 31 goblins attacked once more, but in a battle called "The Siege of Craziness", they were once more turned aside once their newest war leader was slain and once more the remaining 30 goblins retreated.

About 20 dwarves (some of them Clan members) chose to emigrate to The Pit of Spite rather than risk being over-run by a goblin invasion.

Later that autumn, 31 goblins attacked the Tower once again, but the defenders were unfazed and removed their war leader without incurring any losses of their own. The remaining 30 goblins attacked The Tower a second time, but with the same result as before: the defenders lost no one and the goblin mob lost a war-leader.  The 30 renewed their attack but were rebuffed once more, losing another war-leader.

The "War of Clouting" began between the goblins of The Stirred Thief and the dwarves of The Crypts of Glory.
In "The Siege of Savages", 20 goblins attacked the lone defender of the Bentshot hillocks, Bim Oilycharms (AKA: The Oche Fur of Marking).  Bim struck down their war leader and the rest quickly retreated.  Once again the goblins attacked Bentshot, this time 10 strong in "The Onslaught of Scorpions", but once again Bim slew their war leader and the remaining nine retreated.  Later that summer, 8 goblins attacked Bentshot once again and once more they retreated minus a war leader.  A fourth time, a mob of 8 goblins attacked Bentshot and again, they retreated 7 strong.  For the fifth time, Bentshot was attacked, this time by a mob of 6 goblins, but once again they retreated after losing their war leader to Bim's deadly blade. For the sixth time, a mob of 8 goblins came again to Bentshot and once again 7 retreated in bloody disarray.  A seventh assault by six desperate goblins resulted in five retreating.  After being bolstered by three more goblins, they attacked for the eighth time, but Bim stood fast and it was seven who retreated.  The Oche Fur of Marking remained undefeated.

"The Conflict of Quakes" began between the goblins of The Parched Seduction and the dwarves of The Crypts of Glory.
The first battle, "The Scabrous Assault", pitted 20 goblins against the four defenders of the the Fondledmines hillocks.  The goblin's war leader was slain and the other 19 quickly retreated.  The defenders suffered no casualties. A second time, the goblins attacked, this time 17 strong, but the four quickly slew their war leader and predictably, the rest fled.  For a third time, the goblins attacked in a mob of 17, but the four defenders once more slew the war-leader and the remaining goblins fled in terror.  Once a new war leader was chosen, the 16 goblins attacked once more, but the new war-leader proved as effective as the old one and 15 goblins fled into the wilderness.  A new goblin joined the defeated rabble, this one named Duslud Balancejewels and it was what the other 15 needed, for Duslud succeeded where so many others had failed and slew the four defenders of the Fondledmines hillocks, conquering it and taking it as his own.  He placed himself as governor of the place, calling his new government "The Evil of Depths".

Strangerdanger the Crazy Bad Trap-Traps of Trapping founded Pricedtraps, the Clanhome of Itsatrap! http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=148224.msg6112141#msg6112141

Year 28
Having been winnowed own to only a half-dozen hardened goblin warriors, these six attack Bentshot Hillocks with the first thaw of Spring and The Ochre Fur of Marking was finally bested.  Afithi Brownpapers slew him on the field of battle but still did not have enough to fully conquer Bentshot, extracting tribute from the undefended residents instead.

Thirty goblins also attacked The Wrathwell Clanhome in a "Brutal Assault", slaying nine of its defenders before its war-leader, Zicab Plainflicker AKA: "The Safe Arm" could be slain by Father Goodbrews Colorrims, sending the other twenty-nine in retreat.  Among those slain were Wrathwell Dyeanguish and Ringo Murderpaddles.  Again the twenty nine goblins attacked, slaying only a cat before their war leader was put down by Father Goodbrews Colorrims, send the other 28 fleeing.  For a third time, 29 goblins attacked, slaying a turkey hen before an angered alpaca removed their war leader from the field and life with a swift kick to the head.  For a fourth time, the remaining goblins rallied under an impassioned goblin named Astol Watchfulrouted, AKA: "The Euphoric Modesty".  Giggling madly, this maddened creature led the assault that finally broke through.  The twenty-five dwarves, their pets and their livestock were all put to the sword.  The Tunnels of Despair were aptly named, for those who had fled there to escape a goblin invasion became instead victims of the very same.
Among those recorded as slain were:
      Father Goodbrews Colorrims
      Wrathwell Callfences
      Goodbrews Oilgulfs
      Father Goodbrews Bellsmirrored
      Father Goodbrews Seigedoil
      Wrathwell Tongsdabbles
      Goodbrews Phraseceilings
      Wrathwell Squashedpillar
      Goodbrews Virtuegems
      Murderpaddled Crazedmined
      Murderpaddled Boulderslip
      Wrathwell Knotmetals
      Father Goodbrews Tundramined

I'm sure those clan-members who survive will mourn their fallen comrades and eventually build monuments to their sacrifice.  Madly giggling still, 'The Euphoric Modesty' was appointed the new governor of The Tunnel of Despair, calling his new rule "The Torments of Trammeling".

Having finally tamed Bentshot Hillock, the six goblins turned their bloody gaze to The Windy Tower of Drinking.  Approaching on the sly, they were able to sneak past the watch-animals and play merry murder with 26 of the 53 creatures who lived there before the war-leader, one Ringgrains, AKA: "The Galley of Priests" was beheaded by Mofol Craftedchannel.  Among the slain were: Mother Goodbrews Yorebooks and Father Goodbrews Shipspike.  Rallying behind one of the remaining five, the goblins attacked once more, but this time the survivors were ready and the war-leader was slain with no losses from the defenders.  Once again the "Fell Four" assaulted the Tower and once more retreated minus one.  Those three attacked yet again, slaying two defenders before being repulsed, a pair of bloody greenskins fleeing into the night.  The Tower remains. Just barely.

Year 29
Two goblins attacked The Tower, striving with all their might to overthrow the dwarves, but one fled into the night and the defenders were unscathed.  Biding his time, the last goblin found a moment when a dwarf strayed too near his hiding place and sprang out in ambush with a shriek.  That dwarf paid with her life and the goblin was able to slay a sow and a turkey hen before being slain himself by the onrushing soldiers.

At Hammercrown, Metalsmith Lanternvessel (The wife of Saint Relievedsteel) created a masterful steel spear: one that would soon change the fabric of history.
'Legendary Armorsmith' Lancertrench added his touches to history by creating a masterful set of steel armor: mail shirt, breastplate, greaves, gauntlets, high boots, helm and a shield.  All garb for the Saint Forii's champion.  The armor was then decorated by Metalcrafter Helmssaint with masterful designs in bronze and zinc - that The Saint of Wrath should be recognised at once and feared. 10 dwarves emigrate from Cagearmors to Hammercrown, convinced to defect by Saint Cityghost and Saint Boltssecrets who had been visiting there.  Six of them enter the "Swordsdwarf" program while the others find thier employment elsewhere in the Saint society.

Year 30:
At Hammercrown, the dwarves of the Swordsdwarf program were outfitted with masterful swords, high boots and mail shirts, all in steel, and masterful wooden shields.  A few even received steel gauntlets. The Saint Clan then was blessed by the arrival of their Forii's champion: The Saint of Wrath.  Outfitting himself with the armor and spear created for him, he saluted the Saint Clan with his spear before setting his merciless sights on The Tower.

The Saint of Wrath's visit to The Tower was both brutal and thorough. When he departed, eleven had been slain and only three dwaves remained.  On his heels came a horde of Trolls pursuing a single elven caravan.  Surely they'd finish those few who had managed to hide from his terrible spear.  Next, The Saint of Wrath turned his bloody gaze to the oh so appropriately named Tunnel of Despair.  There he set about extinguishing the lives of all who lived there with single-minded efficiency.  Among those recorded as slain were many believed to have been among the slain when the goblins conquered The Tunnel of Despair back in 28.  Instead, they met their ends at the point of a dwarven steel spear.
Wrathwell Tongsdabbles
Wrathwell Squashedpillar
Wrathwell Dyeanguish
Wrathwell Knotmetals
Wrathwell Callfences
Father Goodbrews Seigedoil
Father Goodbrews Colorrims
Goodbrews Phraseceilings
Father Goodbrews Bellsmirrored
Goodbrews Oilgulfs
Goodbrews Virtuegems
Ringo Murderpaddles Lashconvent
Murderpaddles Crazedmined
...The infant Murderpaddles Boulderslipped is presumed dead, although its body has yet to be accounted for.

After wreaking disaster at two of the five Clanhomes, the Saint of Wrath returned home to brood upon his further plans and be celebrated by his Forii's disciples. http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=148224.msg6156670#msg6156670
A human huntress named Onec Willfulsweltered also decided to visit Hammercrown on her tour of dwarven halls.

The Windy Tower of Drinking:
A human mercenary named Ona Worldclean visited The Tower, but on her heels came an eyeless dusk troll with black, cracked skin and three long hanging tails named Aspad Burialtunnel, who proceeded to slay a bull, a boar and two dwarves before disappearing back into the wilds, following the human woman's spoor. Unfortunately, this was to be an ill omen, for soon after came the Saint butcher Mosus Goldbells the so called "Saint of Wrath".  This steel-clad monster came boldly to the Tower and methodically slew all who had survived the past few years of goblin attacks, the dusk troll and everything else that attempted to wipe the Goodbrew legacy from the world.  Fourteen fell to his spear and none are known to be alive.

Then the elves came and with them, the trolls.

A howling mob of 62 trolls from The Stirred Thief, led by the a massive brute named Rima Elderwalked "The Past Valley" assaulted The Tower. The dwarves at the Tower were would have been fortunate to have been hosting the elven caravan at the time, for while they would have huddled inside their bloodstained keep, the trolls and elves could have had it out.  The trolls slew five yaks, a sow, a cavy boar "Urdim Numbersilver" and three elves before a maddened yak cow trampled "The Past Valley" into the bloody muck, and the mob withdrew to find a new chief.  Against all odds and thanks to the three slain elven merchants from the Wind of Cleaning and their herd of yaks, The Tower remained unconquered. However, without anyone but the ghosts of the slain to inhabit it, this would probably not be so for long.

25 more dwarves emigrate to Hammercrown from Cagearmors, among them are Stonecleaver Channelsecrets and Aegus Lenslucky

In Pricetraps, Itsatrap?! Cityclaps was appointed 'Hammerer' of Pricedtraps

Excerpt from the Journal of Saint Relievesteel, a one of the Founding Seven of the Glorious Dwarven Fortress Hammercrown...

...it was in late Autumn, if I recall, that we remaining few of Hammercrown felt The Great Awakening.  It is almost impossible to describe the sensation that swept through us.  It was as though we'd each be granted an epiphany of our own, unique nature, and our direction gained a clarity we'd not felt for a decade.  Imagine, if you will, if you'd unconsciously begun to hold your breath.  As the seconds pass you feel a weight, a hot, dull burning that creeps through your insides until you feel yourself begin to fade from consciousness.  Imagine if you'd gone years with this stale air burning the lining of your lungs, until finally...the sweetest, most glorious breath of air washed the exhausted gases away.  It was like breaking the surface of the ocean and breathing deep, and you'd never even realize you were suffocating in the first place.

That, dear reader, was the return of our Forii.

His sweet love embraced us, and every dwarf froze in place.  His care, his love, and his divine inspiration lifted the veil of a wearisome asphyxiation from our lives.

It was glorious.

A small nagging lit the corner of our collective attention, however.  A brief confusion, I think, at our diminished number.  I felt his light focus down on me and I explained, as best I could, that the others had gone to spread their enlightenment amongst the other dwarves in our nation.

He was irritated at that, I think, for it left him fewer tools to craft his divine image with.  But, true to his namesake, he saw fit to forgive us for this, for his divine love for the dwarves of Hammercrown encompassed all.

It was then, however, he'd asked where the others had gone.

Oh, dear reader, I could tell you how his fury shook the halls of our home. I could tell you how the pillars that kept aloft the roof of our tunnels threatened to crack under the weight of his screaming, inarticulate rage.  But I will instead spare you that fright, and tell you of what his anger brought.

Vengeance.

For you see, our Forii was the first to notice our world, and claimed it for his own.  Our Fortress was to be his Magnum Opus, his most perfect creation, with no other to compete with his perfection.  When the other Forii came while he slept, they stealthily dug into the earth and filled it with their crude creations.  They befouled the world he'd been creating, and he would cleanse it of their toxic creations.

We felt his cold intent, and we remaining few bent our backs and set to work.

The first task he had us set about was the taming of the monster who'd sat at our gates since the day he'd left.  A fearsome Minotaur, who'd done naught but sit outside our walls and stalk the trees.

We crafted three traps, made from clever gears and levers and skillfully carved wooden cages, the beams so thick that even the mightiest monster would have no chance to break them.

He was quickly caught, for the simple beast stumbled quickly through our clever traps and found his freedom stripped.  At our Forii's orders, the beast was not executed (as we'd expected) but instead chained deep underground, sealed within the catacombs to protect them from any who would seek to disturb the dead and rob them of the fine crafts and dignity they'd been entombed with.

With the threat eliminated, the fair Dwarven Metalsmith Laternvessel began plying her craft in peace.  With boughs of steel and lumps of coal, she busied herself in the claustrophobic forge deep underground, her hammer filling the Fortress with the ringing clang of metal on metal.  With sweat dripping from her brow, she crafted sword after sword, the watchful eye of the angry Forii burning into the back of her neck.  Let me tell you, fair reader, the swords she crafted were breathtaking.  Glistening with fresh steel, intricately woven handles and blades that even the most veteran of warriors would have loved to swing in battle.  But, much to our distress, with each sword came the last-minute hesitation, the small mis-strike of the hammer, the unintended fleck of ash befouling the blade.  None were able to appease the Forii, and each were tossed into the smelter to have their valuable steel reclaimed.  This recycling could not save every ounce of steel, and our stocks dwindled lower and lower.  Our Forii's frustration grew and grew, and we bore the brunt of it, until finally welcome news came.

Traders on the horizon, and Dwarven no less!  They were immediately welcome into the trade depo, and every bar of metal was bought up, along with every good that was made with the valued material.  The wheels of their wagons lifted as their metal was taken and replaced with lightweight masterwork wooden trap components.  The forge, smelter, and wood ovens did not falter from then on.

Time went on, with we few dwarves working so hard we thought our fingers were to bleed.  We were too few in number to complete the mountainous task set before us, but as though the Gods above heard our plea, relief came.

With the migrants came many welcome faces.  Two metalworkers, Gods be praised, to take the load off of poor, poor Laternvessel.  What's more, other Saints must have felt the call of our Forii, for several had found their way back to their home Fortress.  There was much love and stories to be shared between those of us present, and for a moment we felt the watchful eye of our Forii relax...until he saw.

His fury scattered us from our reunion, and we were set back to work with renewed force.  There would be no merriment for now; work was to be done, and dark deeds to follow.  Our Forii brooded darkly above, his shining light turned black and ill-intended.

Oh, fair reader, the small room where our forges sat cooked us alive.  Our sweat sizzled off our brow, and our eyes grew weak from the cruel, blazing embers.  But still we worked, burning wood, forging steel, and melting the cast-off into new bars.  Each time we grew closer and closer to perfection, and soon satisfactory works of steel began to trickle from the forge.  First it was a spear, then a helm, then a boot and then another, then the breastplate and the chainmail to sit below, then the greaves and finally the gauntlets to protect the hands.  On occasion we were left with an extra sword or piece of armor, and at our Forii's direction they were given to a militia of sworddwarves who'd been assembled from the unskilled workers.  But the finest pieces, however, stayed within that dark, sweltering room.  Each piece of gleaming perfection was circled carefully with whatever metals we had left over.  These pieces of deadly work, fair reader, brought tears to my eye from their shear beauty.  Bronze circled each curve with loving care, and what little valuable gold we had leafed along the blade of - and I do not think this description is an exaggeration in even the slightest - the deadliest spear in all of creation.  The suit of armor we crafted stood gilded with our sweat and blood, but that was all it did.  It stood, and stood empty.

It had been half a year since the weight of our Forii's gaze bore down upon us, and our back-breaking labor had created the most perfect suit of armor that had ever, and I do mean ever, been created.  It was a dark thing, though beautiful.  Steel twisted for war, and emblazoned with every ounce of metal we had to make that war beautiful.  A light shield of carved willow and a sharp spear of deadly steel stood propped up against the stand, and the armor itself shined with a beautiful gleam that bespoke of days of diligent polish and love.  We gathered around to stare, but none of us dared to touch it.  After all, my dear, fair, patient reader...

...what dwarf could possibly be worthy to don such perfection?
