Weirdly, they have a thematic link in that both games have you form a party of pre-made champions, each with their own abilities and equipment. Both also count sentient animals among their cast, and parts of DM's aesthetic look like early Warcraft games.

vaugely recall "from the dark ages, to the galaxy" being possible with mods, and all the games in between. ALthugh, crashed starship being the start of mideval dynasty could also be interesting.

This time around we have Runescape and Dawn of War: Soulstorm.

So I guess an Age of Empires-Total War hybrid set during Geilinor's Third or Sixth ages where instead of a Total War system of building province-level stuff to make armies, you move around a campaign map with a single commander and build a base on the battle map with traditional resources and worker units, to recruit platoon-sized (melee, range, and cavalry) or squad-sized (mages) formations of dudes and smash them against eachother, with heroes mixed in to completely ruin each side's day.

I'd be lying if I thought a Runescape mod for Total War wouldn't be kinda cool if set in the Third Age, what with it devastating the northwestern corner of a super-continent so thoroughly (and without nuclear weapons or other traditional WMDs at that!) that it's still not really inhabitable thousands of years later.

To fund your space program, you have to hack into the Kerbin First Planetary Bank and create a multi-threaded program to transfer money from the accounts of unsuspecting customers.

Apex Legends and Pantropy. Two-faction battle royale game with base-building elements. Combat is fast, base-building is slow and plodding. Kill wildlife to gain research points, slowly work your way up the tech tree, and maybe in a few days' time the first PC death will occur.

There are no items on the map. Your faction has a main base that you can buy starting stuff from but everything else has to be constructed yourself. Want a legendary nail gun, the only ranged weapon in the game? Well, that takes about 1800 iron bits and 1600 copper bits (and the requisite coal to smelt it; you probably want a high-level smelter to reduce that amount so you'll be wanting 1600-ish feldspar as well). Want legendary ammo for it? A mere 300 iron bits per 3 nails.
