What's this? Oh no! Fath Komancerol has been killed by a Giant Anaconda!

Let us have a moments silence...

Our sympathies are with the the bereaved widow, Unib Morulzareth, who is left to bring up her boy and baby girl alone.

Unib Morulzareth has given birth to a healthy baby girl. One hopes her family is a comfort to her in this difficult time.

I know. Somebody should write a proper dwarvish family tree program.

Spring has arrived. Let's see what developments there are ... not much. Just that Besmar Misber has also become very fond of a Giant Weasel. I wouldn't mind one myself, you know, if it wasn't liable to bite my arm off at any moment.

Autumn and, Uh-oh. Nil Dumatenkos got himself killed by a wandering monster. I think I should step up security a little around here.

I would like to point out during the break that I love how the dfhack command is called "gaydar".

sorry I couldn't come up with anything better

well not sure if "sorry" is the correct word

i mean i don't really regret it too much

Disaster! Obok Konoskulet and her baby Kogsak Itebuthir have both gone missing. Examining the forensic data it seems they were attacked by a pack of dingos. In a hilaridisturbing moment, it seems Kogsak may have been killed by having her baby thrown at her.

Winter arrives. All non essential work is stopped, to give our dwarves a chance to know eachother better, but no progress has been made in the lackluster romance between Urist and Bembul. Unib Morulzareth and Obok Bomreklecad aren't going to get remarried, so they are mercilessly kicked out of the fortress. I'm sure they'll be fine.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The children are all old enough to feed themselves. Let's take a look at what their future holds...

Ral Cattenonul seems too flighty to settle down, we send her out to migrate into a new fortress somewhere.
Ber Delercagith just isn't interested, so he can go too.

unless you manage to get an in-fort marriage, something that has so far not been reported in DF .40.14+, reproduction's over? Good luck.

Haha, it's not over quite yet. There are now only 7 fortress dwellers, and the pop cap is set at 10.

I am hoping for in-fort marriages, if not I will at least get some solid data to preset in a bug report.

1008, Mid-Autumn. A new contestant arrives, Onul Zuntirkilrud. Actually she's the cousin of Fath Komancerol (who died two years ago). Good luck, Onul, you'll need it!

Spring: Nothing new developed over Winter. Well, we got a Forgotten Beast. It's stuck under a hatch. I'm going to see how Giant Weasels fare vs Forgotten Beast. A little while later, two new contestants arrive: Melbil Shorastasrer(F) and Kulet Larkonos(M). Oh-ho! They are a married couple! More babies for the fortress. :)

Ptb, try marking your edits, it can be very confusing to find what's new.

Good point. I didn't want to spam half a dozen replies, but I can see how it could be confusing. I'll add [EDITx1] etc. as appropriate.

I've got a lurking forgotten beast problem. So I've thrown just about every random giant animal and animal man into a room.

I'm going to pull a lever to release the caged beasts and animal men. Then another lever to allow the forgotten beast to enter.

What happens next? Place your bets!

The correct answer was:
First the animal men are slaughtered by the giant animals.
Then the giant animals were slaughtered by the forgotten beast.
Except for one giant weasel that was hit so hard it smashed straight through a tile of solid rock!

[EDIT] Congratulations to Melbil Shorastasrer on the birth of a bouncing baby boy!

BOO-YEAH!~ Marriage in the fortress.
« Reply #28 on: January 12, 2015, 11:48:30 am »

Yep, after the long winter of 1009 huddled together for warmth Bembul Ustuthnish(F) and Urist Numiteb(M) have finally got married! I found out in early Spring 1010. The marriage system is officially not entirely broken (although, dwarves certainly aren't falling over themselves to marry).

Fortress Statistics:
* Dorfs who arrived, only to die: 3
* Dorfs who were born here and left alive: 2 children
* Dorfs who were born here and still live here: 3 children, 1 baby
* Dorfs who were born here and died here: 1 baby

Total population growth: +3

Most creatures are majorly neutral toward the idea of marriage. Somewhere around 78% have no feeling towards it one way or another. The rest are split pretty evenly, so only about 11% are likely to get married without some special reason for it. Of course, add in the detrimental traits that have an equal chance of happening, and you're possibly looking at an extra percentage point or two off, so more like 9 or 10% likelihood.

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/v0.34:Personality_trait

So it's not impossible, just something you have to work toward.
