Marriage science in DF 0.40.23
« on: January 11, 2015, 04:53:07 am »

Welcome to Dwarf Date. We throw seven dwarves onto a volcano (next to a volcano) and see if things get HOT.

Looking at the analysis here, from the initial seven it is only possible to have one marriage occur. Bembul Ustuthnish is the only female dwarf who has the inclination and commitment necessary to a dwarf male. Stinthad Iduzol and Vucar Stesoksazir, lovely ladies that they no doubt are, aren't likely to directly contribute to later generations of dwarves. We wish them the best in their new life, elsewhere. We also say goodbye to Erush Lokumistbar, that playboy. ;)

In Dwarf Date we like to give our dwarves time to get to know each other. So they will have the entire winter season as a paid vacation! (No actual pay involved). Don't worry - I'm sure they'll find something to keep them warm on those long winter nights.

Well, duh. They're living on top of a volcano! :P

Summer. Six migrants arrive.

We say goodbye to Ezum Lukdumat as she is deemed to be too 'flighty' for marriage. With the new contestants there are three potential pairs for marriage in the future.

My bet's on either Urist "winning" the marriage or else Bembul dying next.

But wait! In a shocking development, four of the migrants reveal that they are already married!

Unib Morulzareth and Fath Komancerol, Obok Konoskulet and Obok Bomreklecad. They may have got onto the show under false pretences, but let's give them a warm welcome anyway. While we try to work out who bribed the intern to let them in.

In mid-Autumn a new round of contestant arrives. Wait, make that an old contestant. It's Ezum Lukdumat again. We kick her out, again.

Let's take a look back over the year...

We have two married couples, who arrived that way, and five more dwarves who might get married at some point.

Winter arrives. All the workshops are closed down.

Spring! Everybody has had three months to get to know each other. Are there any budding romances forming? Let's see:

Ooh! Urist Numiteb has taken Bembul Ustuthnish as a lover! This bodes well (for our ratings).

I would like to point out during the break that I love how the dfhack command is called "gaydar".

(deliberately missing the point) Shouldn't the command be renamed Yegor Timurowitsch? (sorry, the turkish is the only wiki that transcribes the name with an "y").

Do not adjust your set!

Because I accidentally destroyed the nobility system, I started over from scratch. The earlier posts have been updated to show 'what really happened'. Just remember. Greedo shot first!

(N.B. My favourite image sharing service is down, so all pictures earlier in this thread aren't showing right now.)

Big news! Unib Morulzareth has given birth to a bouncing baby boy!

I think it's time I started posting family trees. :)

Why?

I can't think of any reason
that a small population might come back to haunt us.

Congratulations to Unib Morulzareth on the birth of a beautiful baby girl!

Spring arrives, another year has passed. It's time to peek into the private lives of our reality(?) TV dwarves.

Rumour has it that Bembul Ustuthnish really likes that Giant Weasel we caught a while back. When it's finished training she'll probably have it as a pet. But no progress on the romantic front.

Great to see a difference in playstyle for a change.

On a side note, I had no idea dwarves could be anything but heterosexual!

This'll be fun to watch. I've found a modding way to hike up marriage chances. There's the [ORIENTATION] tags, there's also a [PERSNOALITY] tag you can use to steer your creatures towards different mental directions. Like Love, or Hate. Others too. So you could hike up the odds of your dwarves genning with the proper mindset for this right off the bat.
