Do you guys have own meaning of word liberal in america? ???
Yup.

No, everyone else has their own meaning. It's similar to other places using alternative units or insisting on spelling simple words incorrectly. These aren't grey areas, but incorrectness we tolerate from the rest of the world.

Ideologically, I think (though I could be completely wrong and hate america!) it's a scalar starting from outright government mind control to total individual liberty. The adjustments to government required to support it decide the purity tests for libertarians, who don't like to call themselves liberals because they glom on to the republicans desire for a free-market, because Shadowrun is super cool and gritty or something. The majority of republicans are ostensibly corporate anarchists with a prettier name, but then there's conservatives, who are, likewise, fascists with a prettier name, but also people that want to keep the government in check and preserve the constitution, who are moderates who appeal to rich christians, and thus there is an overlapping term for god-hating liberals that call themselves 'progressive' that want to change and experiment as much as we let them, confusing people that want to support gay people into calling progressivism liberalism and vice-versa. So it means both liberal in an ideological sense and liberal in terms of what we want to do with the money. Then there's communists, also known as socialists, who everyone hates.

American politics by sheer volume of newspeak is literally the most confusing shit and I hate it, so I just call myself an anti-regressive-liberal-post-neoregressive-conservative-progressive within socialist libertarian technoanarchist conservatism and that usually gets people off my back.

Eagleon, I like the cut of your... jib? Do pteranadons have jibs? I'm not poking around down there to find out, wanna be my VP?

Do you guys have own meaning of word liberal in america? ???
Yes. We also have weird views on a lot of other things. Though I said I wasn't going to say anything about my political positions, I'm trying to be a better politician so I can become the Regressive Candidate We Don't Really Need Or Even Know About Yet, so I have to arbitrarily go back on things I said before?

I got a 6.25% On the RWA test, and I think it is because of my using "feel neutral" as a stand-in "don't really care" and not enough questions about "Babies: raw or sautee" type subjects, which I as a Regressive assume is part of our political position.

Naturally I find statements like "soandso is left-wing" when speaking of US politicians to be rather silly, but if we assume the wings belong to a pteranadon then there is a lot more space between the way-out crazy left wing where I sit so I can hang over the edge and spit on stuff (this is why I need a political hover-platform!) and the meaty tasty middle part of the birdmonsterthing and the further right edge.

Naturally a pteranadon is well known for eating nonsense and crapping stupidity, so the closer you get to the front or back of the birdmonsterthing the less savory such positions appear from other positions.

All I know is, eating babies would prevent a lot of people from blossoming into frothy jerkbags.

Vote Regressive!

Edit: I've been informed by my political advisor (the little red squiggly lines under stuff) that there should be an 'o' in 'pteranadon' but I'm a politician now and we don't know the meaning of the word 'mistake' but it sounds like there's meat in there, so if anyone has one I'd like it rare and brushed with red wine.

EditEdit: Ha ha, suck it squiggly lines, there is an 'o' in there... wait, you meant two? Oteranadon sounds stupid, is there such a thing as a silent leading 'o' even?

You have my vote and my eternal partnership, which may meander off at any time to ADD land, but I assume someone will come and tell me if you win so that I can go babysit the senate. Do Vice Presidents get food stamps, or will I have to forfeit these?

Can I also suggest a talking point that will improve our chances for reelection? Placing an official definition on all of these words at once will free up people's attention to create more of them, thus ensuring our total domination as somehow the most comprehensible choice and thus the safest possible one in the face of the rampant paranoid fantasy that will ensue.

You can eat the senators if you get hungry I guess, but I'll have to see about appointing a cabinet of definitions. I don't think having a cabinet of dishes will work very well anyways, what role do cabinets even have in government?

Waaaait, the cabinet is where you keep the leftover senators! Brilliant!

Is this a terrible european joke? Did those bastards steal my platform? Cause I want it back, there's a frisbee up on the roof and I'm scared to climb up there on a ladder, I slipped and fell once and this is a way more precarious spot.

Seriously though, I am all about having a sensible and well-informed discussion regarding how to reform our tax code, implement sane education reforms, move full-speed away from the "education for profit" system while recognizing that making college the default turns it into high school 2.0 so we need things like vocational programs alongside more accessible college, we need infrastructure investment out the wazoo (and I mean big stinky pteranadon wazoo, those things are huge, TONS of infrastructure), and we need to stop worrying about what consenting adults do on their own time when they aren't killing each other, though I am a bit bummed out because gay marriages are fab (nobody parties like the gays) but they don't tend to produce as many tasty babies to eat!

In the interest of full disclosure, it does amuse the hell out of me to try to present a reasonable and viable position, with several points of "oh yeah, we really need to do that", that just happens to include eating babies.

I also think my hover platform will need to be decorated like a pteranadon... I'll probably need a cape to go along with my beard.

Man, I am gonna be awesome as president.

I've never been a big fan of the people demanding free tuition. If it makes economic sense for someone to go, they should figure out how to pay for it. Kids getting in debt to their eyes for a useless degree at a shitty school isn't a good enough reason, in my libertarian outlook, to go and break a market completely.

Market is already broken, if the trillions of dollars in debt that is stuck neither dismissable nor payable is any indication. Debt doesn't just happen to underwater basket weaver gender studies majors at a school where you get your grades based on your feels, it also happens to STEM majors at respectable institutions, and also everyone.

I'm just barely managing to graduate without any debt and I'm in a very unusual situation. Literally nobody I know doesn't have debt at my mid-range school, whether their degrees are bullshit or not. Most people who don't get school debt are rich to begin with.

We provide primary education for "free" because the benefits obviously recoup the costs. The world is reaching a point where the same needs to be the case for secondary education, we can leave the debt and payoff cycle for postgrads. This was inevitable unless we wanted to stagnate as a species knowledge-wise.

Yeah, this.  We like markets because in some situations they control costs well.  College is not such a place.  And college is also a place with huge externalities.  A well educated taxpayer is a taxpayer who pays a lot of taxes.  As such there are strong benefits for society to subsidize education beyond the point where even perfectly rational people would pay for it.

Excepting the snark about the arts, This.

Once upon a time, spending 4 years with the town smith learning how to count, hit hot metal with a hammer, and shoe horses was enough to contribute at the cutting edge of technology. Sure, it's still a valuable skill you can build a career on, but these days the jobs that expand our horizons and capabilities are a lot more complex and specialized than a few years can prepare you for.

Think about how packed High School was with new information, and how you STILL were barely able to get up to speed on what Humans have been up to for the last 2 millennia or so. We're not just standing on the shoulders of giants anymore... we have to dedicate the first 18 years of our lives scrambling up to the summit of a heaping mountain of these Giants, all the while trying to cram the muffled theories of electrodynamics and human nature and mathematics and cultural history and so on that we are able to overhear in passing.

In order for life as we know it to simply continue as it has, we need most people to get a High School level of education at minimum. If we want to have any hope of growing or expanding our horizons as a people, we need to do the same for Undergraduate education... maybe even Graduate level in another generation or so.

College isn't a luxury, but a necessity for society to function. It's as much a right as anything else.
