Draft Colin Powell for President. Betcha he could beat Hillary and Trump.
Powell's day came and went. If he had run a primary challenge (or switched parties) in 2004, I think he would have won in a landslide.

EDIT: High turnout reported in North Carolina (bolstered by beautiful weather for mid-March), and combined with historically high early voter turnout, despite a shortened early voting period and new voter ID laws. Not sure who that bodes well for -- could be a surge of Bernie supporters or Trump supporters or both. Will also be interesting to see if there's any down-ballot upsets as a result, especially on the GOP side. There are a number of primary challenges to "establishment" Republicans coming from Tea Party types, including the governor, Sen. Burr, and several of the House representatives, including noted former Tea Partier Renee Ellmers.

Yeah, but he specifically didn't want to. Or, if I remember correctly, his wife really didn't want him to. I doubt that's changed.

I would like to know how everybody here rates the current candidates in order from most appealing to least appealing.

My list is as so:

Most appealing
-Ted Cruz
-Donald Trump
-Marco Rubio
-John Kassich
-Hillary Clinton
-Bernie Sanders
Least appealing

Anybody else?

Mine is the exact opposite, swapping Cruz and Trump.

The nice thing about not having to be in the Republican Primary... they won't need to cater to the abyss that everyone throws themselves into.  The Republicans that are now voting in Trump/Cruz.

Most appealing

... Mine is pretty much the opposite.  I'm kinda not committed between Sanders and Clinton.  I'd rate Trump more appealing then Rubio though.

Acceptable:
Clinton, Sanders

More acceptable than "who," could actually be mistaken through beer goggles for a president:
John McCain, Mitt Romney

Who/What the HELL, dudes? I don't feel like I even know a single thing about these people other than their positions re. abortion. Still better than "Hurgh" tier.
Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, John Kasich

Hurgh:
The Donald, Mao Tse-Tung

So far as ranking goes, I would be reasonably certain I wouldn't experience a notably increased risk of death if it's anyone except cruz or trump. Neither the religious extremists or the (right-wing -- the left ones are at least less likely to hurt non-christians) populist crazies are groups I could see being in power and turning out well. So they're the least appealing by several orders of magnitude, because their supporters would be more likely to break my legs under more conditions given the greater opportunities one of their ilk in power would provide. I like my legs unbroken.

Rough problem is I don't really want any of the other ones in power, either. Least to most goes something like not!Trump/Cruz, not!right, not!sanders (though I'd love him as VP or somethin'), not!clinton. Basically who I'd most and least vote against, rather than for :V

Though that would be the rankings from most to least appalling. Not really any appeal for me for any of 'em regarding the POTUS position.

Best
-Bernie Sanders (May not get a hell of a lot done, but it won't be for lack of trying, and it'll be trying in the right direction.)
-John Kasich (Seemingly this cycle's 2012 Jon Huntsman/2000 John McCain...a decent old-school fiscal conservative that doesn't seem to be going for the identity politics. Experienced, legit contender. Some concerns about his recent shift right to win votes.)
-Hillary Clinton (Bland but ambitious status-quo Democan; Futurama's Jack Johnson. Possibly a robot.)
-Marco Rubio (Bland but ambitious status-quo Republicrat; Futurama's John Jackson. Possibly a robot.)
-Donald Trump (Is he really evil? Is it all just a charade? Is he a crypto-Democrat? Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?)
-Ted Cruz (Has that face that says, "I'm gonna sneak into your room at night and touch your naughty bits...")

Without a doubt he could've won easily. Now he's got a background he can pivot any direction he wants (other than the Powell Doctrine, and no one competent can really disagree with that), plus he's got serious bonifides as anti-estsblishment with the times he's told his party to fuck off.

I mean, the guy certainly doesn't want to run, but he's definitely sufficient to sink Trump and definitely enough to give Hillary pause.

I don't know how he's remembered in the states, but for me Powell is the guy that was spouting ridiculous lies to the UN assembly about Iraq's WMD program. I don't see him being a popular choice. He would serve well as a sacrficial goat for the moderate GOP looking to distance itself from Trump.

Some concerns about his recent shift right to win votes.

THere has been no shift. Everything he's done recently is something he's advocated his entire time as governor. It's how he became governor in the first place.
