Gilmore has gotten this far on just fumes and seems to be happy to have it stay that way. He'll probably stubbornly stay until the convention because his entire candidacy seems to be meant to make some kind of point.

Still wondering how the heck he even got any votes at all....

I know...

Also saw this when doing a search on Gilmore: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/jim-gilmore-president_us_56b12188e4b01d80b2445277

I guess chances are that those voters are people who have been fans of Gilmore long before he ran for president. And maybe a few protest votes. Given how his campaign seems to be intended to be some sort of middle finger to the system, he seems like a pretty good choice to make a protest vote out of.

I'm pretty tempted to vote for Gilmore, just on protest principles.

I'm pretty sure you shouldn't.  The fact that he has so little support clearly must be down to god finding the very idea of Gilmore winning abhorrent.  There is no other reason that the guy would have 12 votes.  He is a former governor and the only military veteran in the field.  That should at least get him out of last place.  God works in mysterious ways and the thing he works towards is keeping Gilmore from getting votes.

More like the fact that he doesn't even try to campaign. According to the article I linked, the guy had to rely on a supporter to even get a hotel in Des Moines. Though that may have been more that the supporter offered to pay for the hotel rather than Gilmore not being able to afford one.

Hell, he's so irrelevant that CNN announced his candidacy several days after the fact.

Just 12?
Literally 12.
12?
Seriously?

...Why am I thinking "Apostles" right now?

And the fact that the supporter they interviewed was named Bishop?

Guys...Gilmore *is* literally the Second Coming. It kinda makes sense that if Jesus Christ ran for President, nobody would vote for him in this day and age.

If you've ever got zero votes for president then you are just like Jesus.

In Jesus' case it was more like winning the election in a country that isn't a democracy to begin with.

So "winning the election" is a euphemism for "buying the farm," right?

Well, Trump did say maybe he'll buy a farm in Iowa some day...

Didn't Clinton and Sanders do better than Cruz and Trump? :V

In entirely unrelated polls.

I imagine it's so superdeligates can "cancel out" a split popular vote with the "establishment" vote.

I wonder why the republicans don't have that thing? Though they'd probably scatter to various establishment candidates rather than coalesce around a single one.
Probably because it goes against the whole "one man one vote" thingy. I know that the United states was built to not have that be the case, but for the primaries at least, only people who actually care about politics are going to vote, so having people like that would just screw with everything.

I don't even understand why thay don't all do the whole primary directly and all at once. (Thouh I imagine it's probably some obsolete throwback to earlier days)

And if they did the whole general election thing like right now and it becomes a three way split in the republican side with nobody getting enough, then what happens?

You mean the primary, which is what I was talking about

And what happens is Whoever gets the most votes is their candidate. What's so complicated about that

I think the chances of an exact three-way tie are pretty low.
