I find all kinds things like that a bit silly, but at least the African-American et. al makes some kind of sense. "You're American but have ancestry from somewhere else" basically. Less of an issue since America is built on immigration.

But Muslim-American is like saying "yeah, we don't really think you can be properly American if you don't practice a Christian religion, so we have to point out that you're that much different when you practice Islam."

Not sure about that one. Probably super ignorant of me, but isn't being Jewish kind of viewed as a racial thing, despite it being a religion? Not really sure how to explain my thoughts on that via phone pecking...
