By all polling data Bernie would actually blow Trump out of the water. More than Hillary, if I recall correctly.

If the election was held today, certainly.  But there is a big thing that would happen in between Sanders winning the nomination and November:  partisan politics.

Sanders exists right now in the world of primary politics which is not a zero sum game.  Clinton or O'Malley are hardly going to come out and attack him as a socialist who wants to surrender to our enemies and take away your right to see your doctor right after he takes away your gun.  That is exactly what will happen in a general election.  It's hardly going to persuade everybody but there are some people who go for scurrilous attacks.  Trump has already had the mud slung at him.  So polling Trump vs. Sanders right now is not the same as polling them right before a partisan election.

For the record I think that Sanders would probably beat Trump because Trump has huge baggage.  But that's because he has traits that lose elections not because of polling.  Entirely my subjective assessment.

I think the bigger issue would be, and frankly would be in any Trump vs. X, is that Trump is not actually a politician and totally lacks in that experience. It's helped him in the primaries but if he got into an actual head-to-head with any of the Democratic candidates it would reverse into a severe disadvantage.

Not with how American politics seems to work. Attack ads seem to be a big thing, which always bothered me because you're essentially saying "no, I don't think any of my policies are good enough to spend money on expensive TV ads to force down your throat, so I'll just say 'the other person is shit, that's why you need to vote for me.' and move on."

Also, people are also stupid. The fact he's not a politician and won't (perhaps even can't) play their games is always going to be a good thing for him, regardless of how his interactions with opponents go.

There's nothing more symbolic than Clinton using an attack ad to get Trump and Sanders peeps attacking each other only to get both attacking hers lel
Trump and Sanders tie exactly, then have to share the Oval office
US politics then have an overflow error and loop around to despotic monarchy, but with more free market capitalism.

Muslims and Mexicans are advised to emigrate from the States, before Trump goes on a killing spree that won't cost him votes

Plus Republicans have a good track record with non-politician candidates who are already celebrities (alyhough Reagan and Schwarzenegger were movie stars, whereas the most important thing Trump's ever done is star in a reality TV show)

I prefer amateurs to professional politicians. Leave professional training to the civil servants, professional politicians have an excellent track record of being corrupt and inept

Not long though, they don't really like eye contact.

Is anyone here actually going to vote for Hillary "Laugh Off The Pain" Clinton?

Seriously, she just laughs at any questions that she can't answer.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.
