To be fair, anyone who has posted with me for an extended period knows that some days I've got an attack dog's mentality, and some days I'm pretty reasonable. The ignore feature is mostly just there to keep the former in check a little more. I'm not locked in here with you, you're locked in here with etc, etc.

I dont want to derail, but listening to people that make you mad and or crazy, is kinda important to having a well rounded world view. When you dismiss ideas or people you dont like out of hand, you miss out on a lot the world has to offer.

The reason I put you on ignore is our fundamental difference of opinion on what is acceptable levels of civility in a conversation. I had honestly forgotten that's what it was over though, thanks for the recollection!

Meh, I am just overly anal/logically motivated.

It comes off as brusk and or rude more often than I would like. I dont mean to be, honest.
If it helps, imagine me as a cross between Mr Spock, Sheldon cooper, and a robot.
(I actually do care about other people's wellfare a significant amount. I just process everything through cold, unfeeling mental gymnastics.)

When the forum renders the topic thread, it simply omits all posts by that person as if they do not exist.

This is useful for people who legitimately have nothing to contribute to the forum-- spambots, and the like.

Sadly, many people use it as a means to sanitize the forums of genuinely human elements they find dis-favorable.

I've used it for a few spambots and that image troll a couple months back, but otherwise I never use the ignore function.

The only person I ever ignored was GWG because he really pissed me off arguing about the most pointless bullshit, and he was about as likely to change his mind (or drop the subject) as the Colorado River is to suddenly reverse direction. But he got himself banned for exactly the same reason I ignored him, so I suppose that worked out in the end.

I tried to use it for that tuypo1 guy a few months ago, but I turned it off in the end because I always ended up clicking the "show post" button anyway.
