Caesar was also all about genociding inferior people and taking their land and giving it to good Roman soldiers (locus vitae?). Also autobahns, and also liked dogs, probably.

Genociding?  Conquering, sacking, and looting, certainly (Caesar's big goal was loot to pay off his myriad debts), but the Gauls were assimilated, not exterminated.  The brutality was a means to an end, rather than an end to itself.

Don't get me wrong, though, I'm not saying Caesar was a pleasant chap.  I'm just saying that it's disingenuous to claim that he was "pretty much...Hitler."

... so has ceasar rose from the grave and wrangled a senate seat from the living, such that we actually have cause to care what he's like, or...?

Seriously though, like trump or lump 'im, the guy is now on record calling for literally nazi means of tracking an ethnic/religious minority. Whether that makes him (or whoever) like hitler or merely cribbing from the national socialist playbook is... somewhat irrelevant to the point that was being made. Folks ain't makin' shit up about him publicly declaring support for what was very much the step before, and part n'parcel to, armbands and camps. Up to th'reader how bad of a thing that is, but I'd say it's... pretty damning.

You know what else Hitler was? A coffee-shop intellectual "student" obsessed with old operas trying to compose Wagner slash fiction operas with his pianist roommate. He obsessed over women he exchanged more than one word with, fled from a milkmaid's casual offer, and contemplated suicide over his secret crush of two weeks becoming engaged. He argued politics constantly at the homeless shelter and tried to turn middling art talent into a livelihood. He wore a funny mustache and a long coat while living off his dead father's pension and grousing about vast conspiracies of rich people keeping him down. His hobbies were dabbling in Utopian city planning, obsessing over maps, advocating commuter rail and attempting to micromanage millions of people.

Hitler was a hipster debate-addicted self-anointed intellectual who lived with his mom, and absolutely would have played Dwarf Fortress.

You're all just like Hitler in at least one way.

See how meaningless it is?

shaz seriously how the hell do you not see the similarities between the Nazi databases/marking of Jews and Trump saying he wants a database of every single Muslim American

that's

that's what people are talking about

i'm trying to clarify here because you started talking about illegal immigrants and latin america when that's not what the nazi comparisons were about, it's his comments about legal muslim americans that people are talking about

well sure, but the comparison here is that trump is like hitler in a way that is relevant to the ways in which hitler was bad

it's not "he's like hitler, therefore he's bad", it's "he has this quality, which when it appeared in hitler has since been widely agreed to be bad, therefore he's bad"

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

On the other hand, Trump doesn't have a mustache so there's no way he could possibly be like Hitler.

You win the William Tell award for missing the point by the widest margin possible.

Is that why half of Gaul allied with him?  Because he was genociding them and they wanted to get in on the fun?

Hard to tell without a smiley face because comparing pre-industrial leaders to Hitler is exactly the sort of thing people do on the internet.

Couple of new Iowa polls out, and it looks like Ted Cruz is set to cruise into 2nd place (you can hate me later). He's jumped about 10 points in the state in the last three weeks, with about half of that coming from Ben Carson's decline and the remainder a mix of sopping up from Jindal, Huckabee and Santorum. Rand Paul has also seen a boost, doubling his numbers in the latest poll to reach 5%. Trump is still riding high around 25-30%, the same level he was at at the beginning of the month.

Methinks Carson-mania is on its way out, and now we'll get to hear about all the crazy shit Ted Cruz has said over the years.

Shazbot:

Putin's Russia, Communist China, and North Korea control their media as completely as they can, broadcasting propaganda, altering news, showing entirely fake news, suppressing inconvenient news, to indoctrinate their population with the "proper" viewpoint, make them loyal and trusting, to keep them from rising up, and to turn them against the enemies of the State or Party, whoever those may happen to be at the time. Russia goes so far as to fund internet trolls to spam news and twitter and comments with Russian conspiracy theories and pro-Russia nonsense, to ensure that their propaganda extends even into cyberspace.

Have you noticed the similarities between them and your conservative media? The rest of the world has. You think the rest of the world is biased against you. The citizens of Russia think the rest of the world is biased against them. Everyone else in the world thinks you are both being manipulated.

You claim that the "average American doesn't trust the media." Conservative media is part of the media.

Have you considered the possibility that the world is right and you are wrong?

I would like to point out that a number of the most prominent voices labelling Trump a fascist lately are themselves conservatives.
