Well, they were sparring on the top of my tower. The barrack was surrounded by fortifications and a door.
I didn't know how, but three dorfs plus one baby fell from z=154 and slammed into the ground (z=130).

I guess they tangled together while falling and constantly slammed into each other until ... bam!

Urist McDwarvenBaby has been found dead.

Now three dorfs are in hospital. Two of them are on the same and only bed. The dwarven mother is lying on the floor, feeling hopeless.



I have to admit, that is one of the most hilarious things I've seen in a while. I just imagine a baby that entered a state of rage and went all martial trance on them.

Hey guys. This happened again.

The militia commander slams into an obstacle and blows apart!

This time I closed the game without saving. I'm pretty sure it is a bug, because I locked the door.

Well my layout is simple. It is a tower, every level has similar structure like this:

# = wall
X = up/down stairs
+ = floor

Sometimes I replace a wall tile with fortification or door.

I have shrunk the barrack within the stairs so they are now standing on the floor tiles only. Haven't seen an accident so far.

You should probably put hatches every few levels of your stairways. That way, if dwarves are thrown, hit the walls, and fall down the stairs, they only drop a few levels. I think that's probably what was happening - they were going all the way down to the ground floor. Where did you find the bodies/spatters each time there was a death announcement?

They fell out of the tower. It seems dodging near a wall/fortification can sometimes teleport them out.

I have yet to see dorfs fall below a stairways, they are not open spaces after all.

Silly question, but is the tower sealed? Is there a roof? I've had dwarves do really wonky things with climbing for quite little reason whatsoever.

Edit: Nvm, that wouldn't explain the mom-dad-baby tangle.

I am a bad man.. but this is how I interpret that combat report.

Baby gets dislodged from mommy's grasp, and bounces into daddy.

The dwarven baby slams into the sword dwarf!

Then the baby bounces off daddy, and slams back into mommy.

The dwarven baby slams into the sword dwarf!

This repeats consistently as they are falling.
Eventually mommy and daddy collide with each other as well

The sword dwarf slams into the swordwarf!

and somehow the baby starts getting bounced between them again.

Then they hit the ground.

I imagine the baby as Wile E. Coyote, the mother as the rock under him and the father as the rock over him.

Yeah, I reconfigured my barracks and there haven't been any accidents for years.

The green area is barrack area.
Now dorfs will spar but they will only dodge into the yellow area.

I had that happen with my dorfwash.

Two dorfs sparring like the two to the right ended up stuck behind the two fortifications inside the bottom level, so they had to have phased through the walls, but luckily running the pump flushes them back to the side with the ramps.
