Then what would one be?

I couldn't actually say.

I mentioned earlier for me, assuming we are moving in the same aggressive line that the male fantasy goes, it would be a woman who could beat the hell out of men physically, while still having the bone and musculature structure of a woman. Perhaps via superior martial arts skills.

I had a Krav Maga instructor that was super short and athletic looking, but she would have been able to wreck most guys that crossed her if it came down to that (though her husband was also an instructor, and I suspect he could have beat her. HE was actually fairly tall and muscular.)

I assume there's an unspoken 'without being sexualized in any way, shape or form'?

As to that regard, I know someone who fits that archetype exactly - she's one of my martial arts instructors and the scariest woman I've ever seen.

yea, I referenced Bitch Planet earlier today, which I have not read because I can not afford comic books, but Here is a pic from it that I think would work. There are multiple women because this power fantasy should be intersectional and involve multiple body types anyway.

*stares at the derail into sex workers and then stuff in general about sex*

Not that I have a problem with it, but its edging into territory where we might not want to go.

Anyhow, on the subject of sex stuff in MMOs, StarWars Galaxies had a huge range of emotes and interactions you can do, and they (Sony entertainment) actually allowed people to do sex role play, or to cyber, as people called it. However, it was good manners to keep it in a separate channel so that those who didn't want to listen to it on their chat could avoid it.

I honestly wouldn't want to be in a game where that is encouraged. It attracts a specific kind of people. Cybering was pretty common in the MUD I adminned for. We had this thing where we would have to police the newbie areas because people would make new characters and stand around in that area naked and making sexual advances towards people. You also had older players that would proposition new players. Which is not something you want people to get as the first impression of your game.

It wasn't encouraged, it was just allowed by the game mods.  It wasn't common I don't think and if people DID do it, they were told to take it to a private chat by people around them who didn't want to listen in.

I didn't run into that very much, so it was probably rare, at least in public places. I was simply aware that people did do it, didn't take part in it myself.

tbh, I've done my share of that shit, so I have no room to talk. (not stalking newbies or anything, I've never done that.)

Anyway, I have delivered my version of the female power fantasy that I feel parallels the male power fantasy and am curious on other women's thoughts as well as the men in the thread.

Another example would be Ellie from Borderlands 2. She's just awesome and I would play the hell out of that character.

I think there are plenty of women that want their characters to be "hot", though. Personally, I like people. People are just great, I want my characters to have a vast array of appearances. I like different things and prefer not to put all my eggs in one basket.

But keep in mind a woman's version of hot and a man's version are oftentimes very different. Even being sexually attracted to women, I don't really have anywhere near the same tastes as a lot of heterosexual males (except my boyfriend, who sends me burlesque pics through facebook all the time and who I share a Suicide Girls account with.)

My REAL power fantasy isn't really a physical one though and would be boring in a game. A highly successful female in a male-dominated profession with quick wit and the ability to lay the smack down verbally on any sexist or creeper that comes her way. She would preferably work in a STEM job of some sort. She would moonlight as a feminist blogger that remains unbothered by the vitriol and hate from the MRA and red piller and generally anti-feminist communities. Although, I guess her profession could be like "assassin" or something. But that goes back to a more violence based fantasy.

That, however, is my -personal- power fantasy, as opposed to a more generally acceptable to the female gamer community power fantasy.

Actually, I'm not sure if it actually was allowed, but it was definetly made possible through the emote system that the game had, plus the dancer profession, which often had scanty clothes. You could choose to wear whatever you wanted, so it's not like women were forced to wear what they wanted.

I don't remember about the womens armor back then.

The movies were pretty sexist (like leia in a bikini as a slave wasn't entirely gratuitous or something.) So it wouldn't be surprising if the game followed suit, but maybe not.

It was weird that an alien would put a human in sexually revealing clothing, but Jabba may have been doing that for the pleasure of Boba Fett. Slaves are not usually treated with much respect, and the act was clearly done by a bad guy; there was no endorsement of it. It was gratuitous in the way all sexual exploitation is gratuitous.

I'm sorry, you can't make excuses for that one. That was entirely for the men watching the movie.

I don't understand this way of thinking. I present a man with very obvious sexism, and he falls all over himself to justify it in the most absurd ways possible.

Some things are just sexist, you don't have to hate the movie because of it or anything. Not everything has some over complicated explanation or coincidental happening involved.

So showing an act of sexism is sexist - this goes back to the integrated WW2 armies earlier. Maybe it was put in for male pleasure, but portraying something is not endorsing it. Obviously Jabba's act in the film is degrading.

I love those gross generalisations of "a man" instead of "you".

When something like that is put in entirely gratuitously (and I don't know how this relates to armies at all) it is sexist. There was no actual justification for it to be there. It was there to sexualize leia, that was the entire purpose of that outfit and her chain.

When I said "the men watching the movie" since I assume that is what you are referring to, would you prefer I say you? Because it was very much put there for male viewers, even if they personally didn't dig it, and probably not just for you.

It is impossible to have a conversation on gender when you are talking to be that will bend over backwards to serve as apologists for this kind of thing.

You, perhaps, do not perceive it as sexist. Okay, fine. But you are not in a position to make that judgement because it is not exploitative of your gender.

The issue here is how people perceive media. UUU, I think it's fair to assume, sees it primarily as a kind of window into a fictional world. A way to see events happening in a different reality, even if it is imaginary.
Whereas smeep, given the focus on messages portrayed in media, sees primarily it as a message from the creators to the consumer, things are made that way because of an intent by the creator.

That's why UUU is looking for in-universe justifications while smeep is talking about how it was intended for the viewer.

I always thought it contributed to the "seedyness" of Jabba's establishment. The concept of stripper slaves is frowned upon and has a negative emotional impact, which I believe was used to make the viewers feel animosity towards Jabba. Note, I specifically avoided a "it's realistic!" point here, My point is specifically related to how the movie conveys it's ideas to the audience, in a "show, don't tell" fashion.

but Jabba may have been doing that for the pleasure of Boba Fett.

Did he? If your not sure, than it seems to me that either the movie did a poor job of conveying this, or the movie did not intend to convey this at all. If it is the latter, than that cannot be the reason, since the movie is fiction and none of it took place (Jabba cannot have "intentions" beyond what was shown on the screen and communicated to the viewers because Jabba does not exist). It's a pet peeve of mine that people try to justify things by hypothesising scenarios in fantasy beyond what the media was trying to communicate to the viewer, which can't justify anything since none of those hypothesis have any bearing on neither reality, nor the media.

EDIT: nevermind, that quite was edited out and as such I rescind my complaint.

I don't think being dressed in revealing clothing is inherently sexist, nor is it inherently "for the men". Although it can be sexist and used for that purpose, and probably more often than not is, I think this is an example of a stripperific outfit being used for non-sexy reasons.

Note, it has been a long time (many years) since I have seen the movies, so there is the very real possibility I missed something and am totally open to any counterpoints.
