They appeal to women. They spend millions every year on marketing research in order to find out who they can better exploit. That is why mobile game apps are marketed towards women. Candy Crush. The infinity bingo apps. Kim Kardashian's Hollywood adventure. Enough said.

Did you seriously say this? Really?

Yes MOST women totally play those games. Anytime I am put in front of an FPS I get confused and just stare at the keyboard, my small brain can't handle it. Then I go back to playing Bejeweled list most of my gender.

Also Kim Kardashian is awesome! I watch that show ALL the time! =^___^=

Honestly, I don't think that post deserves a serious response.
Doesn't it make sense marketing wise to include more women and appeal to them for the $$$ that could be gained?
They marketed a thing towards women and gained $$$.
I don't see where your objection is. Unless you're being genuinely PC Gaming Masterrace.

Galbrush doesn't work mostly because he is a parody of a male protagonist, he works because he is the typical male hero saving the damsel in distress... But it turns out he is a weenie who gets everything wrong and the Damsel is actually the hero.

While Galbrush can't be that parody because a female character trying to help and messing everything up and then being bailed out by the much more competent male hero is... common. It isn't a parody anymore.

A proper Galbrush would have to be of a typical female hero and flips it on its head. With the Male Elaine probably being someone who is initially set up as a boyfriend type character, because they always have to be together, and making it so they both dislike each other with him oddly having a deep personality and doing things when Galbrush isn't around.

Or possibly that Galbrush presents herself as the typical helpless female character but is secretly incredibly competent (though that wouldn't be the best idea)

because most female gamers are interested in games with content. And we are interested in the same games as males. Candy crush saga actually has about an equal spread iirc.

Stereotyping women as only playing these app games that require no attention span or skill and are pinked up to appeal to femininity is absurd.

There's plenty of women on here and we play dwarf fortress, and I have yet to see a highly popular with the females tile set that makes everything neon pink. Or like, a way to focus solely on baby raising and the marriages of the dwarves. (well morso than the othe rgender, there are a number of peopel that have done !!SCIENCE!! on dwarves in that sense, I'm not even sure if any of them are female.)

edit: also, yes, PC Gaming Master Race all the way!

It was because I made sweeping generalizations about all men, which... can bother men in general. But I don't want to risk another warning or a flaming if I word things incorrectly without meaning to. Most of my posts aren't meant to be incendiary, and a lot of it has to do with the audience I am speaking to versus the audience I am used to speaking to.

What is the difference in the audiences? I don't think anyone likes sweeping generalisations being applied to them.

In that case you should clarify that you have issue not with gaming in general, but with the games you personally like not being marketed to women.

DF is not marketed to anybody.

can we stop with the intro to debate class terms. Most arguments can be picked apart that way, very few arguments are perfect,

And really, none of you see Loud Whisper's stereotyping of women gamers as incredibly offensively sexist? DO you really think that's what the bulk of female gamers are looking for?

No I haven't....  I'm arguing that we want representation in those games.

Candy Crush Saga isn't even really marketing towards women, it is marketed towards what marketing execs think women want, because they are all 1950s era males.

What if the situation was reversed and all the FPS and RPG games had strong women characters and scantily clad (in a way that sexually appeals to straight women as opposed to a male power fantasy) men and when you want representation, we are argued "well there are games like Deer Hunter, that's appealing to men. You are just arguing that you want your types of games and not the games that are meant for your gender.)

... Hrmm...
Now I have an idea for a tileset. ☆☆Girl's☆☆ ✿✿Night✿✿ ☆☆at☆☆✿✿DF✿✿ anyone?
An extremely clichéd and gaudy tileset that makes your Dwarf Fortress game look like a geocities website made by a 13 year old. Default font? Comic sans, of course!

No, so it sure is a good job that LW didn't say that, isn't it?
He gave an example of successful games that largely market to women.

They seem to be on the money...
