There is a great variety of tea in the world; some people like it made one way, some another. But the enjoyment of tea is something we can (almost) all share, except for those who prefer coffee (Which is a roasted bean infusion, AKA bean tea ).

Whether you like it hot or iced, whether you like it sweet, milky, or unblemished, and whether you like it herbal or caffeinated, in the styles or Europe, Asia, Africa, or some other culture, there is usually a tea that fills your soul with joy.

So in the spirit of variety and sharing, this thread is for discussing what teas you do and don't enjoy, how you enjoy them best, and sharing inventive or classic teas you discovered recently; as well as anything else tea related.

Among all the wordplay in my username, you may guess I really like tea. For hot tea, I mostly drink Russian Earl Grey with a bit of honey. For iced, the same with some extra peach. For some reason, even with friends who've known me for a long time, I get the same surprised "Honey? Uh, sure" every time.

... might as well start off by getting mention of the unholy abomination that is the sodatea out of the way.

The sodatea is very simple in practice. You take your normal tea, of whatever persuasion you prefer. But, instead of water: Soda. Carbonated drink of choice. Boil it. Steep the tea. Drink.

It... it's usually a sugary bioweapon fairly sweet. And probably somewhat caffeinated, considering if you don't go specifically after decaf stuff, you've just doubled-down on the caffeine. So there's that.

It's been a few years since I've had any, since I've been trying to avoid caffeine near-entirely for the last year or two (and decaf is anathema so no), but. It was often pretty nice. Also gets fairly surprisingly good reactions, in my experience -- everything from high school students to old southern grannies have spoken positively of the taste. Alongside a bit of incredulity _{because really, something like that probably shouldn't taste as good as it does}, but eh.

Speaking of someone who likes sweet herbal teas, I need to give that a try. How about sprite/peppermint?

As for hot teas, I discovered that steeping tea far too strong by accident and then diluting it does not bear the same results as steeping it too weak or just right. I have a feeling I know why, but I do not want to take the scientific approach and repeat the experiment to confirm. Because... bitter, far too bitter.

I prefer tea to not be too fruity. My favorite though, is Lady Grey.

I like it with silk vanilla creamer and agave nectar.

I also like raw kombucha.

Tea > coffee ^__^

My favorite tea is "Whatever I've managed to grab out of the cabinet in my sleep-induced stupor". Generally with a bit of honey and like, a teaspoon of sugar. Yeah, I'm not a very sophisticated person when it comes to tea.

Although I think most of what I grab tends to be Earl Grey, from the foreign land of "Publix".

Speaking of someone who likes sweet herbal teas, I need to give that a try. How about sprite/peppermint?

I don't think I every actually got around to trying it with sprite. Any of the clear ones, really. Mountain dew (molten grape), that purple mountain dew from ways back (molten sugar), couple different types of root beer (gLorY), orange soda (very orange), probably a couple others, but nothing sprite-y. Actual tea type was... not remembered. I usually did some kind of off-counter honey/lemon/ginseng green stuff, but there was other junk, too. Barqs and gojiberry was... surprisingly good!

Mind you, "surprisingly" good describes every kind of sodatea that doesn't come out tasting like children's aspirin, but that's fairly normal for doing odd things to sodas. It tends to be either nice or tasting like children's chewables. No freaking idea what's up with that.

You can add actual honey to shift the texture, too... doesn't do terribly much to the taste, though. Is already sweetbomb.

Guys remember, honey goes into warm tea only, never hot, it ruins all the good things about the honey.

As far as teas go. I prefer black tea, usually Earl Gray, either with just a bit of sugar or with milk and honey, depending on the availability and the mood.

Also fucking ginger tea, that shit is so fucking dope I can't even. You take bits of ginger and boil that stuff, add some lemon juice to taste and maybe just a bit of sugar. You have one of the wierdest and most awesome drinks ever, it gets hotter the colder it gets, so you can drink it hot and not taste much of the burn, or you can let it cool and taste this refreshingly hot taste that I still can't compare with anything.

kombucha is carbonated. Which is kind of counter intuitive when it is raw because there are strings of bacteria floating in it and you have to suppress the need to shake it.

Ginger is one helluva spice. I haven't tried infusing it, but I can imagine what you're describing. The 'hotness' is probably what I call the 'kick', the distinct taste, of ginger, and yes, it's stronger when cooled down.

I used to like Earl Grey, but Darjeeling is more my speed these days. When I drink tea at all, that is.
