Same.  Animal keeping is now infinitely more tedious, and hauling still isn't fixed?  Looks like I'm going to delay upgrading again, unfortunately.

I'll be waiting until 40.22 at least to upgrade. Still on 40.13.

How so?

hauling still isn't fixed

Presumably this report?  It's helpful to link the report when requesting a fix.

I'm curious (since I won't be ugrading until LNP is updated), now that animals have to be adjacent to mate, will they travel to each other to facilitate that, or do you just have to rely on them randomly bumping into each other? As in, if I have a male and several female animals in a large pasture, will there be any extra micromanagement needed or will they just take care of matters themselves?

Yay, testicles!

There actually are no testicles, just a lower body which is geldable.  It is perfectly possible to mod them in though, with sterilisation and all.

Speaking of which, adding and removing any of those body tags on the spot opens up a tonne of potential for modding.

Thanks Toady! Can we presume that conception by contact will apply to dwarves and other sentients as well?

I've thought about it, and gelding doesn't seem like it will be more then a curiosity in fortress mode until male animals get more territorial about others of the same gender being within a certain distance.  So you might have big burly male war critters, which tend to scuffle, growl and fight with each other unless you geld them.

Curious about the "breeding by touch".  Will there be different distances for different critters?  Do they have to idle in the same tile at the same time?  Or just be within the same activity zone?

Will we get improved methods to keep track of which animals are asexual / sterile / non-mating?  (Even the ability to apply nicknames to animals would help.)

Touch literally means "in an adjacent tile" (diagonally or orthogonally).

Features before fixes? Hm.

Still waiting to get bug 4552 fixed, after several major versions & years...

Thanks for all the hard work to date, Toady.

I i actually kind of like that bug, if it was made to only historical figures and siege leaders. "The general of the entire army just died, what do we do?" "We stay here and defend his body. Keep the bearded ones away from him, they want to take his armour!"
