Sergarr's right. Ukraine never was actively pro-Russian in the last 20 years.

happy new year, everyone!

Looks like I missed something. Looks like you had quite a dispute over here.
I'm not even sorry I missed it. I spent time with my family, celebrating New Year. You know what I love about New Year? We don't talk about politics. We don't talk about life problems. We wish happines in a new year that comes to everyone. It is sad that some of you spent New Year quarelling over things that should be left aside, or even behind. All the people and governments made their mistakes last year. I say we leave them right there, in a year that has already gone to history.

I wish you Happy New Year, every one of you. Happy New Year.

In the grimdarkness of any threads discussing Russia, there is only war. No place for fraternity here, m8!  :P :P :P
And still, Happy New Year.

I met the New Year at a wonderful party, posting here via my phone, but I couldn't agree with P's statement more. Happy New year to everyone!

A little get-together with friends of a friend for me. The first few minutes were spent in the cold, standing on a small wall, listening to the rockets. My emotional state was equal parts anxiety and excitement - fitting, isn't it?

Oil at 53 and the ruble is hitting on 61. Pretty good dead cat bounce I'd say. Putin should really get to doing something about this, oh wait, they are spending 10 billion+ a week for this exchange rate to hold. There's not much time that this can continue, then the bottom will fall out [again].

It seems likely that sometime in the first quarter of this year, Russia will have spent more on propping up the Ruble then the yearly GDP of Ukraine.

I don't know if that was intended to be an insult to Russia, or to Ukraine.

Russian pope wrote a song.

Specifically, Hilarion Alfeyev, Metropolitan of Volokolamsk. The performers are from the Chopin College of Musical Performance in Irkutsk, and the piece itself is an adaptation of Bach's St. Matthew Passion. This is really good, the arrangement and the performers are both excellent.
