Yeah, I think you're missing the point...

I suppose this is one of things you really can't understand unless you've read the book. If you don't take it with enough gravity, you undermine the whole thing....sigh. I was worried about this. Like I said, you don't have to have a lore compendium, but if you're not into the setting, how much fun can you really have?

Try to work within the framework of the setting we're making. If you had any knowledge of AGOT, you'd know Stannis has "magic", though not at his command, and at a price. There's ways to get power but it doesn't come without cost, and there's no "just in case" about it.

If you want a game with more accessible magic, uh, there's like a dozen D&D 3.5 games on the forums right now. Pick one.

As for this, well, of course the main characters will be OP. But, they'll be mortal. If we intend to do the whole alternate history thing, they have to be.
