"Torturing the kobold with the promise of possible life would be cruel. Better to make it quick."

Ava stomped the kobold back onto the ground as it tried to sit up, pinning it down for the killing blow.
"And vhat if all of zhem died?"

She shook her head at the notion of cruelty.

"It cowered. It is veak. It has earned no kindness."

[Dwarmin]

"I do agree-this Rat Dragon has earned not the cruelty...or, the mercy."

Action: Snicker-snack!

[Nerjin]

"Everything has earned some measure of kindness. We do not know who they are. Simply who they follow."

[GiglameshDespair]

Avalanche shook her head.
"You earn vhat you take. Nothing is given for nothing."

Action: Snicker-snack!

With a quick slash, the kobold is dead.

A quick search of the bodies reveals a similar haul to last time; each 'bold is wearing some red robes, leather armor, and holding a half spear. However, the one that was executed has a surprisingly well cut tourmaline tucked in his pocket. Beneath it is a small note, written in Common for some unknown reason.

We need the blood of a Sunlander to summon Alathoth. I've sent a group of penniless adventurers down there to exterminate you. If they succeed, then it was deserved. Should you manage to capture them, have them thrown into the lava by a group of six, chanting the Call. Do not fail me.

Culpa knows who Alathoth is; he's a demon said to have ravaged the world in ages long since past. However, he's supposed to have been chained by the gods long ago.

[Nerjin]

Culpa lowered the note from in front of his nose "This is... bad. They were trying to summon a demon. A powerful demon."

[GiglameshDespair]

Ava growled.
"<Betrayal...>"

She swung her hammer down, pulping a nearby corpse's chest.

"Betrayed. I'll kill zhem."

[Dwarmin]

Osirio seems to take the news with a shrug of indifference.

"Humm, seems we will have to be killing our employers now. Osirio agreed to do a job, and he WILL be getting paid-one way, or the other way....Ah, and a demon? Well, what can we be doing? I suppose we have a, ah, moral compunction to destroy this nest then, but not much economic. Better we be killing this one who betrayed us, and maybe it won't happen. Seems like more trouble, anyway...and not much money. Rough goings ahead, not a doubting.

Also, let Osirio see that paper...

While, Ava, can you smash open that door the rat bolted? Otherwise we are being trapped here, with no revenge."

Action: Osirio notes the handwriting on the paper and checks it against the documents he was given for the job, and looks for signature marks.

[Nerjin]

"I suppose this also means that we won't be getting paid for destroying the kobolds... Unfortunate."

[GiglameshDespair]

Ava nodded and moved to door, slinging her smaller shield across her large one. She took her hammer two-handed and began to batter the door.

Break the door to splinters.

[Dwarmin]

"I suppose this also means that we won't be getting paid for destroying the kobolds... Unfortunate."

"Maybe, maybe not, now that I am thinking. Who gives us the money and who sets us up? Perhaps not the same one. Perhaps he will hope we did not find a letter, and pay us. Maybe we will have to carve our price from his fancy hide, though there is not much money in a traitors meat and blood, alas-it is known.

If he is very smart, he will pay us, admit what he did, and offer us another job. Osirio does not mind working for someone who keeps his word, technically. To say, what does Osirio have against Alathoth, as personally? Osirio has known friendly Demons. Mostly friendly! Perhaps there is profit in this still, if he can convince Ava not to make a pulp of him."

Action: Osirio notes the handwriting on the paper and checks it against the documents he was given for the job, and looks for signature marks.

The signature on the documents reads "Gerald Rath". Additionally, the handwriting seems similar, although the note was obviously written much more quickly.

Ava nodded and moved to door, slinging her smaller shield across her large one. She took her hammer two-handed and began to batter the door.

Break the door to splinters.

The door holds up surprisingly well, not disintegrating immediately like the last one, but after a few heavy blows, it finally buckles and breaks.

[Nerjin]

"This demon will destroy the world. Even the gods fear him. No one will survive if he is summoned. We need to stop even the opportunity of him being summoned. I'm sorry captain, but I won't let this man live after this. The gods themselves dictate that this demon stay chained."
