You both begin in a trench full of mud, blood, and fresh you recruits eager to experience their nations war
An officer walks out from the command area and looks at you all
He screams,"OVER THE TOP, OVER THE TOP, OVER THE TOP!"
Blowing a whistle after each scream
The recruits begin to climb the ladders out of the trench

You see two German aircraft fly overhead
You hear bullets whizing by over head and the screams of those getting hit by them
Blood begins to shower over the trench top

Adrenaline coursing through my body, I charge. However, I'm not completely careless. I take care to remain within the centre of our forces, stick to low visibility areas and am constantly vigilant for a crater or something to duck into if things get rough.

@THE GERMANS
An officer in the midst of your heavily fortified trench looks at each one of you then down at the French side. "THEY WANT OUR LAND! THEY WANT YOUR LIVES! THEY WANT YOUR COUNTRY! FIGHT FOR THESE THINGS AND YOU SHALL WIN!"
There is a loud screaming noise from the french trenches. Trainees and higher level troops begin taking position in fireing posts in the trench, snipers in their nests, rifles lined along the edges, and Maxim machine guns in their fortified posts. There are also 3 mortar pits that are being set up and maned.

Shout my best frenchest battlecry charge forward and throw a grenade at the germans.

Your screams and shouts of blood thirst and wine are lost in the sounds of gun shots and other men screaming their hearts out as well

Your grenade lands several feet infront of the German trench and goes off, it blows a few sand bags away but didn't kill anyone. Though that's a nice throw considering they are still a bit more than a foot ball field away

There is a nice set of craters all within easy running distance, you are fairly covered by fog and other cannon fodder soldiers

I can see the other soldiers being cut down by machinegun fire. I decide I'd like to do something a bit more helpful.

I jump into one of the craters, and look towards the enemy lines. Resting my rifle on the lip of the hole, I aim at the nearby Maxim gunner nest. It's a tough shot, but concealed as I am I can take as many tries as I want till that bastard dies.

I fire.

your rifle only has iron sights but you have a good view of the soldiers charging at your trench

you get into the crater, you begin to hear mortar shells going off around you. You see several French soldiers get hit. Your adreniline begins to pump. You aim down your sights and *bang*. The maxim gunner falls over dead. The horde of French soldiers begin to charge unfettered into firing positions infront of that part of the trench

I join the charge. If we can gain control of even a tiny portion of the trench, then it'll be a lot harder for the Germans to repel our assault. Plus, that'll give us a staging point to attack the mortars.

I must stop this charge! Shoot three first fools!
