Just noticed this thread!

I have all the add-ons and some realism-thing mod too. I have also played online earlier a bit.

Depending on how serious we want to play, I believe this game needs lots of house rules, though. I dont want to play a major power, but rather a local power or some smaller state. Especially not Germany, USA, UK, Italy or USSR. Japan or smaller is OK though(not too many units).

I might be able to play too, I (finally) got the game reloaded (gamersgate had some horrible week long problem with downloads).  I never tried MP, I played a fair amount of SP a few years ago with Semper Fi, a bit of FtM, never loaded TFH til now.  And yea, most of that has been with the HPP (Historical Plausibility Project) mod, definitely my favorite mod but I haven't seen what they've been up to for a couple of years.   I'll fire up vanilla to see how it plays now, and hope I can hook up with you guys.

I have no idea how mods work in multiplayer but maybe later it would be a good idea to try the WW1 mod.

Not yet, we just need a few more people for major nations. 3 people at most.

Which ones are you lacking? I guess its possible to play with just a couple of people if they pick major powers and decide to have a fun game instead of playing too seriously(especially whoever picks the USA).

Okay, so Germany, Italy, Japan, USSR, Romania and Canada have been taken.

I dont want to play France or UK so I guess I can volunteer to play USA's logistics-organizational hell.  :P

I *might* be able to play one, if the game time is ok.  Maybe France, although I *could* try UK if absolutely nobody else wants it - I found it hard to play UK even in SP 'cause they have stuff going on all freakin over, heh...

What start year?  And any house rules?

The 1936 start is the only one that is still up to date both in stock and especially in the mods.

And any house rules?

It does seem like a game that needs them, though I haven't really been able to find a standard set. Possibly it matters less for a newb game. Rules that I've seen fall into basically 3 categories:
  • Forcing the war to follow its historical build up and declaration. Not breaking the event chain. Prevent USA from joining the war too early. Prevent SU from joining the war too early. Prevent Japan from declaring war on the Allies too early. And so on.
  • Banning actual exploits, of which there are a few. (No surrounding an opponent's capital without capturing it, so that their units all run out of supplies).
  • Banning or restricting mechanics that are perceived as unbalanced/exploitative. This is where my total lack of HOI multiplayer experience leaves me scratching my head, as I'm not sure which ones are actually important. I've seen rules on almost every aspect of the game: intelligence (or aspects thereof), lend-lease, expeditionary forces, tech licencing, unit-stacking, radar, forts, trading, training laws, resistance bases, paratroopers, etc, etc, etc.

Ok so putting you down for USA, and I will gimlet down for France.

Also, I think it is worth saying that Hungary is a very fun nation to play as if you start taking territory quickly.

Is the list of taken nations up to date now; can you post it again with player names too?

I have the time to play at nearly any time of the day during weekends. I've used to play both through the games own MP thingy as well as Evolve VLAN. I need to check my game's checksum at some point... We'll be playing stock game + updates, right?

edit: yes, my game is 4.02 checksum GSKH

BTW its also possible for 2 players to play the same nation, or to keep switching a nation from AI controlled to human and back, which can come handy during peacetime especially for the non-major nations like Canada. I wouldnt recommend letting AI touch Germany, Italy, UK or Japan though...
