Why the Jews don't make offerings any more is a totally different kettle of fish, yeah.

The reason Christians don't make sacrifices is as Cryxis said, Jesus took the sins of the world when he died. Also the reason it's possible to get to heaven: because his sacrifice washes/d us clean of sin.

Phmcw: In the Acts of the Apostles, God talked to the Apostles and told them that they could pretty much ignore all pre-Jesus biblical laws except for a few, like not eating food offered to idols or not eating blood.

So yeah, by the Bible, black pudding is more of an abomination unto God than the gayest sex ever.

Wait, what? How does this go with the whole...drinking Communion Blood thing?

That's held to be figurative by most denominations. It's a reminder of what Jesus went through on the cross for us.

I'm not a Catholic, so I can't speak about transubstantiation.

Casualty?

Yeah, BurningPet was banned, but then it was a long time coming - they have been spouting some pretty bigoted and islamophobic shit for some time now.

That's actually a good question to annoy a Catholic theologian with. I guess communion wine is totally literally blood, except it's not. Also, in Acts 15:29, the verse also ban the meat from strangled animal, so I guess a decent interpretation would be that Christian should eat kosher food.

What's the status of blood in Islam/Judaism? Can it be consumed? Is black pudding hallal?

I think halal food involves a carcass being drained of blood, so I assume black pudding is not halal.

Transubstantiation is one of the reasons why my dad thinks catholics are more of a cult than a christian denomination

Surely when you think that your parishioner is using magic to turn wine and bread into literal skin and blood, then you are maybe taking scripture way the fuck too literally

... black pudding is evil, now?

The homosexual thing has a few more bits to it than the lines in Leviticus. Some of the epistles say that "homosexual offenders cannot enter the kingdom of God", although that's often countered with "hurr durr mistranslation durr".
Of course, God created Adam and Eve, and all through the Bible since that point marriage has been between a man and a (in some cases, more than one, but usually just one) woman. Whenever "family" is mentioned, it's a man and his wife. Homosexual marriage is disregarded entirely, and so is homosexual... attraction, I guess? Lust is mentioned (but it's treated more as a temptation than a sin IIRC) so I guess that falls under the same banner.

So, yeah. Christians have concerns that are vastly more important than gays being gay. Like not being judgmental, or showing kindness to everyone.

IIRC the whole bread and wine communion thing is basicaly symbolism that Jesus can sustain you (spiritually) a more modern version would be with a cheese burger and a soda (or at least for 'muricans) once again IIRC

Nah, transubstantiation states that it's not a symbol, but that the bread and wine actually changes in to the legit body and blood of Christ. It's part of some group of miracles or something? I was pretty deep Catholic but not deep enough to remember that completly I guess. It's kinda weird.

Urgh. The real deal breaker with Christianity, for me, is the whole pick and choose mentality of it. But hey, whatever helps people live their lives, I guess.

I think we do have a Catholic around somewhere. Avatar is a panther, or something? Maybe he can answer the question. *Casts Summon Catholic*

The Mass/Communion/Lord's Supper/Eucharist/Bread and wine thing is a sacrament. Along with baptism for Protestants, and a bunch of other things that I don't recall if you're a Roman Catholic.
Catholics (officially) believe that during the ceremony, the bread and wine literally become chunks of Jesus. The overwhelming majority of other denominations disregard it.

It's not "pick and choose" so much as "this book is so very vague that nobody has any sodding clue what anything really means".
It's only the really wishy-washy Christians who say, "oh, I don't believe that, because God is supposed to be all-loving", or whatever. The rest of us will admit that the book is very hard to understand (at least on topics other than the key sin/saviour/love ones), and we're just going with the interpretation that we think matches up the best. Unfortunately, that doesn't stop people getting all pissy because everyone else is wrong, but there you go.

In my experience, for what it's worth, Judaism is much more pick-and-choosy. I remember my minister talking about a Jewish friend he had who said most Jews pick the rules they think they can follow and kind of just smile and nod to the rest.
