Both Simon and Fake!Derm want that halberd. It's so shiny and deadly.

Fake!Derm quickly runs up the stairs and begins to sprint towards the weapon, but Simon is much, much closer, not to mention faster.
Simon easily gets onto the center platform, the polearm nearly in his arms reach. That means that Fake!Derm has to use his secret weapon.
