I admit to overusing regular death causing arrows. And water arrows.

Oh, fan of spears as a melee weapon.  That started with Dynasty Warriors.

Me too.  :)  Spears and Halberds always seem so neglected.

For shooters I tend to like shotguns, because I'm terrible at aiming at things far away.

Yeah, video game weapons are a diverse sort. If a fishing lure and an umbrella count, so does a blackjack. S'honestly quite nice to see variation beyond the fairly normal stabby/shooty stuff.

Would weapons from games you haven't actually played count? Never played katamari damacy, but as weapons go the katamari ball is one of the concepts I like better than many.

That wasn't a weapon, it was a tool for bringing everyone together!

TOGETHER FOREVER.   :P

The real question is if holy water (arrows) and fire arrows count.

I direct you again to umihara kawase, in which you are capable of waging a war of genocide on presumably sentient seafood with a fishing lure. Stuff that's actually bog-standard weaponry, such as bows and arrows and whatnot, are going to pass the bar with ease.

I'm fond of dual-wielding Dawnbreaker and Wabbajack. Wabbajack.

Wabbajack.

Wabbajack, Wabbajack. Wabbajack.

yea guess which game  :P

I was fond of morrowwind's Sixth House Hammer enchanted with 40 - 60 pts frost on strike when I played through as a nord crusader (or modded class).

Easy enough to get to a high enough enchanting level and yet so hard to make it legit.

But these are Thief arrows. Thief arrows have heads made out of some kind of elemental crystal...thing. In addition to your bog standard arrowhead.

The portal gun.  And that one gun from Cave Story that lets you fly with the recoil.

Ricard's Rapier in the first Dark Souls.

It looked fantastic, simple blade with an intricate handle, and had a great moveset to go with it.  Ambushing people with these tiny little stabs that sliced off their health was amazing.  Getting a backstab on them and following up with R2 spam was great as well.

Other than Ricard's... Y'know, I haven't had an extremely satisfying weapon in games in a really long time.  Everything's either extremely gaudy or doesn't do enough damage that it feels like you've got a stick that you're trying to beat people with.

Question, Frumple: to which game(s) do you refer when you say "Infantry" and "Combined Arms"?

I'm typically a fan of nonstandard weapons. Things like fans, flutes, umbrellas, musical instruments, and furniture. Failing that, a good old fashioned punch is probably my second favorite, especially one backed up with magic or Final Fantasy Tactics-style monk arts.

The portal gun.  And that one gun from Cave Story that lets you fly with the recoil.

Oh man, these are also really good. Nothing really beats a gun that shoots so fast that the recoil makes a jetpack obsolete.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.
