New Tracefile. Hopefully this one will provide more information.

http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=07398455235846056516

If not, I'll run some more times to get you enough data.

Thanks, already got something. What kind of hardware do you use to run this? It seem to skip a lot of frames and draws like 1 frame per 5 second. Am I right?

Do you hear music while it runs?

I've prepared a new version of a "trace file generator", could you please try this one as well? :)

Edit: if it is graphics-related, then maybe one way to fix the issue is to use OpenGL rendering by setting "ForceOpenGL" setting in remember.cfg to "true"

http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=05352696154475247535

Stability is up, it didn't crash!

It also took 10 minutes to load to the main menu, and was sort of stuck waiting to process the action. This did come after setting ForceOpenGL to true.

So, if it does not freeze with OpenGL, you can then just use a normal version (Alpha 15B) with ForceOpenGL to true.

This seems to be some problem with DirectX drivers then. Also, I'll make a small tweak for the next release to have it not freezing even when such things like this happens. The problem with freezing was it failed to render a frame for more than several seconds.

What kind of hardware you use to run the game?

So...any tips for not sucking? :P

Well, it took me a bunch of times before I got to 'not sucking' on Normal. Here's a few things I learned.

Colonize like crazy. You should probably try to get atmosphere domes fast so you can properly colonize frozen and barren planets.

Your starting world is 'balanced' which means 'equally sucky for everything'. You can slowly convert it to 'industrial' by destroying farms and building factories. Make sure you don't destroy farms too fast! I recommend that if you have less than 50k agriculture surplus each month you should concentrate on making agricultural colonies. Ocean Farms and Hydroponic Farms help a lot!

After a while you may find your home planet is a long way away from the front line. You can pick a good planet (or two) near the edge of your empire and turn that into an industrial planet to build your big ships there. When your home planet is stuck in a backwater far from the action it may be better to turn it to Scientific by destroying factories and building Science centers.

Keep an eye on your mineral production (metals, organics and exotic elements). If you have big surpluses you should probably have made more scientific planets. If you are really short of one, but have lots of another, you can try an economic treaty with a neighbor.

You won't win first time. You won't win every time. Just remember to have fun. :D

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite, with a GT630M and an i7 @ 2.3GHz

Well this game is pretty cool so far. The only bug I have found is when you click and drag to select multiple units and then the fight ends the box remains after the battle ( the mouse cursor does not reappear either) . But pressing esc fixes it.

My tactic is to expand as fast as I can, skipping planets only if I start having food problems. After making a scout or two and sending them on their way, I settle every one of the viable planets that I can. Most planets become mining ones, but Terran planets are usually scientific (unless they have a really low science bonus/really high food bonus), Oceanic planets are usually agricultural, and Exhausted planets usually end up being industrial (there are lots of them and there isn't much use otherwise).

However, I have the problem that the AIs don't seem to do much fighting between themselves. Yes, they declare war, but not that much territory is lost. On the other hand, they often declare war over tiny things while scouting my area with troop transports and then I lose.

A good strategy is to build the largest carrier you can, then use it to ferry around fighters to border worlds. Makes it much easier then trying to build fighters at the planet.

The secret is AI races always have some reserve and rarely leave "inner" worlds unprotected. That's why "blitzkrieg" is hardly possible when they fight between themselves.

I can also advise one trick for effective defending (best suited for Hard setting). Do not have all your ships orbiting the border star you defend. Better to have there one-two ships only and the remaining fleet at the next closest star. This way the enemy will see a weak fleet at the border star and most likely try to invade it with not-so-powerful fleet. But when you see enemy fleet took his way to your star, send your main forces there! This way you'll be able to destroy much more powerful enemy by dealing with his fleet in parts.

found a slight issue

when upgrading my fleet of troop transports to run on op endgame tech, i found that the marines simply disappeared into thin air

now this would be all fine and well if the marines actually went anywhere

on the planet which at the moment had plenty space, or back onto the ship after it was done

or i were able to unload them at all, having already deleted the current design's blueprint in favor of the new one

also: what kind of star system should i look for for optimum burmiton deposits, i'm running a slight if constant deficit because fleets consume tonnes of the stuff

e: welp, that game's over i guess

it more-or-less hangs when the ai decides to declare war on you and you share planets in a given system

that's what i think is the case, at least

"O" class, then "B", then "A" class. Generally - big violet, blue or white stars

Also, if you have a lot of other minerals, you can try trading.

Then, look what ship types consume most of Burmiton, maybe you use some Burmiton-hungry technologies to design some of your ships...

If you have a save game before this happens, could you please send it to me to sort it out? I can also manually edit it to make it playable.

sent you a pm

also, from what i see it's not that i have burmiton heavy techs, just ridiculously high amounts of assault shuttles

0.05 times >700 takes quite a toll on an empire, and that's not even the full thing

Yes, this number of shuttles can require a lot. BTW, from the save I've got your are still in greens for Burmiton: +7.28 profit is a lot :)

As to the hang - it is related with auto-colonisation of very distant worlds, I'll fix this in the nearest release.

yeah, i did pretty much finish conquering a race between asking about burmiton and having the problem occur

glad to have helped out
