Farming question:

Okay.

So I know that you can fertilize farming plots with potash.

I know that you can hit enter and tell them to seed it with a particular seed.

SO HOW THE HELL DO YOU GET THEM TO ACTUALLY PLANT THE BUGGERING SEEDS THERE?

Asking for an explanation on the mechanics of farming,

Make sure you're assigning the plants properly (the plant being grown is highlighted).
Make sure you're selecting the current season for growth.
Dwarf with the farming labor enabled.
If you have the plot set to fertilize, make sure you have fertilizer.

Never fertalized myself. I always save up my potash for making pearlash so I can make clear glass items.

Same here.  Once you have a legendary farmer or two, you'll have so many plump helmets you won't know what to do with them.

Ash/Potash/Pearlash also makes decent snarky building material.

I know what to do with all those plump helmets. Turn them into msaterwork plump helmet roasts and trade them back to the Mountainhome for lots of dwarf bucks.
