I must say, getting to the bottom level of the Vaults with a high level follower of the Stormbringer makes things !!exciting!! - you pretty much call the ENTIRE LEVEL down on your head.

Was doing ok just fighting the hordes on the stairs for a while, but then high priests and sphinxes started showing up, and their smites were able to bypass my 45 AC. Couldn't run up, since the stairs were locked. Blinked, then in a running battle, used up like 5 charges of my wand of healing, all 5 of my teleport scrolls, 2 hits of my wand of hasting... but finally, finally, managed to both grab the rune and get out again.

Don't think I'm going back any time soon though. There's at least a dozen dragons and an ancient lich down there.

I've heard that worshipping Qazlal at high piety levels is roughly equivalent to casting Fireball on yourself every turn, noise-wise.  The idea is that you use his powerful invocations to survive.

As long as you proceed slow it shouldn't change things much

At high Invocations, Qazlal's abilities are very powerful - Disaster Area can one-shot greater mummies and pan lords.

But yeah, you will attract all the monsters to you, which is particularly noticeable in areas where you would normally want to avoid attention, or take on small numbers at a time, like Vault 5 and Abyss.

I can imagine it being fun in Zot 5 too - you will be fighting all the monsters from both halves of the orb vault whether you want to or not...

Sooner or later I'll learn not to quaff-ID potions. Eventually. Unfortunately, Crawl really doesn't help when it's "punishment" for quaffing an unidentified potion of mutation was MR++ and a few points in strength on a MiFi.

Usually I read-ID scrolls and use ID scrolls on pots. ID scrolls are way too common, though - there are usually enough to use them to ID every pot and scroll you'll find, since you no longer need to use them on jewelry or wands.

Yeah... that's what I should probably do. I was smart enough to use ID scrolls on my potions until I found a potion of cure mutation, though.

...Also, is there any way to bribe Oka to give, ya know, helpful gifts? So far he's managed to hand me:

the +7 shield of the Vestibule of Hell {Str-5 Dex+3 Int+4}
the +6 Scimitar of "Uwnuf" {venom, rc+ SInv}

Which are all perfectly useful except that removing strength on a MiFi seems very counterproductive, and that I'm using maces/flails and not scimitars. :\

Oka might be failing me, but that scroll of acquirement certainly isn't.

Well, Oka decided to come through just a little late. I'm assuming the above eveningstar is better, but would the mechanics of Crushing weapons tip this eveningstar to be better? Oka just sent me this:

No, freeze is better than vorpal (crush) against anything that isn't cold resistant.

Actually almost everything is better than vorpal...

Use the morningstar unless you've already got rF and rC.

Or, alternatively, use both. Eveningstar for general use, morningstar the moment something with fire, cold, or poison steps on screen.

...I can't believe that worked. I messed up fighting a catoblepas and couldn't kill it at range, and then messed up dodging its breath and wound up petrify-locked. Right before I got petrified the first time, though, I downed a Potion of Lignification. Turns out being a tree and being petrified stack, so the damage the catoblepas could do to me basically disappeared. I managed to kill it just by wailing on it with my few turns as a tree (between petrification cycles), and it'd only dealt 8 damage to me by the end.
