Books are tools, not the vanilla books, which are hardcoded. I cant really work with those as a modder. Maybe its burrows? The reactions are literally the same that dwarves have, its just that I permitted them for the humans as well. They do work.

Ok, I'll keep trying to get them to work. I've noticed the problem before where I have a guild expansion prepped and ready but it's licence is sitting in a bin that something else is getting stored in and the licence registers as unavailable so the expansion option is disallowed.

Darn stockpiles.

It might be because the reaction asks for "tool", not "tool in bin". Try dumping them out of the bin and store them in a stockpile without bins.

Good to know. I will try that. Thanks.

New poll up, in case you hadn't noticed the change yesterday.

New round of pay for minions, and hero paydays as well. Income will go up faster since heroes earn 500 gold per season.

Meph, you have requested and received one log of crystalwood for personal use. This is what you did with it.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It is now your bed. You still have to share with your husband. He needs at least a third of the bed. You know, ... so he doesn't fall out.

Imeka, you've created 10 stacks of gem/glass arrows for Garrett. Did you want to create gem armor for his missing pieces?

Shadow, your hero has arrived! See updated character sheet. I thought the name was hilarious, so I enabled the priest role for her. 'Cause, you know.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

She also got a set of armor, since I want her protected.

Bluescreen, Snu-snu is doing fine. I sent her out to identify a body and she wound up making three more from the local wildlife. Your minion has 'acquired' some mithril armor for her. I haven't updated the character sheet with her new inventory yet though.

Beirus, your minion, account balance and hero have arrived. William is your monk. Did you want him armored? In what fashion? (He gets a full set of copper, but I have him in a tough leather armor set now. Your call. Also, did you want him to have weapon training, or just hand-to-hand?

As a note for everyone, if you want your minion or hero renamed, just let me know. Snu-snu was hilarious. And I liked Maria as well, though if you want different names that is fine. You're all nearing the 5k mark, so if you want to spend your money, let me know how. I don't have a list of prices, but all in-city services are free if you buy the raw materials.

We have a University and currently have human, gnome and elf contracts, same with a workshop and foreign trader. Using those are free.
For reference, the Masterwork cheatsheet applying to these buildings is here:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I have been working on housing and every hero and minion will have housing. You will receive a bed, chest and cabinet. If your profession requires an office you will get a table and chair as well. If you want more, let me know. Minions have earned some leeway with rare materials and the count will likely be generous to them since he knows them well. (Like Meph's crystalwood bed)

Shadow of Fate:

Account balance:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Still in the gold lead, but barely. I started with it but I'm not exactly running away with it. How lucrative is my glassmaking ability?

Minion Inventory and skills:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Ok. So my bone carving is really high. My glassmaking is only 6? Exactly how much glass making have I been doing?

Shadow, your hero has arrived! See updated character sheet. I thought the name was hilarious, so I enabled the priest role for her. 'Cause, you know.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Are you joking? You must be. I think you are trolling me. Checking hero bio...

Hero personality:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Wow. Her name is really Maria. But her personality information kind of ruins your fun on that one. The poor memory kind of fits, but the no linguistic ability would make it hard to play a lead role or be a priest. She is most likely unaware of her own emotions and rarely expresses them. Not a bad thing for a doctor, but Maria is more like a cyborg than a carefree songbird. Although, it does say she does the first thing that comes to mind which kind of fits. And her physical description doesn't match. Nice try, though.

Now for her traits, I kind of like it. She is very agile which is always nice. But I'm also somewhat concerned. She is a doctor who is unassertive, often feels discouraged, has poor memory, poor linguistic ability, and does the first thing that comes to mind. Kind of a scary combo for someone who may have to perform life saving surgery.

She also got a set of armor, since I want her protected.

Ok. I mean I'll take it, sure. As long as I don't have to pay for it since I didn't request it. I'm cheap like that. :P

As a note for everyone, if you want your minion or hero renamed, just let me know. Snu-snu was hilarious. And I liked Maria as well, though if you want different names that is fine. Maria works. Just don't get any ideas. ::) I think I will save up for now. It looks like I'm the only one who actually hit the 5k mark. 8) (Although a few weren't far behind.) I'm still not sure exactly how I want to spend my money anyway. Any ideas?

As I see in the inventory screenshoot he is just missing a helmet. Create a gem helmet pls.

As for the poll, I voted for human because "bayonetted musket", but now I think it uses another skill than the bow and would not be as useful for Garret, so pls disregard that vote and +1 for dwarves (runed armor) instead.

All, a water dragon has been threatening the city. The guard is active and stationed inside the walls. Are there any heroes that dare venture forth to fight the beast?

Send my minion and hero if Beirus' fails.

I'd also like to buy some better armor (and weapons if I have any leftover cash) for my minion and hero.

The sound of drums filled the air. Not the happy beating of festivity, nor the slow march of a funeral procession, there had admittedly been very few of those.

It was the sound of alarm, filling the air. And for a few moments almost nobody in town recognized it. Why should they?

The only time they had been attacked was by thieves come to fatten their own purses at the expense of others. Like merchants, but less savory.

Or was that the other way around?

No sieges had ever come to town, no ambushes, and their only other moment of panic had been when the forest giant had blundered into their traps, and neglected, had passed away in captivity.

The great beast had first been spotted by some fisherman. Bluescreen had been among them, spearfishing in the shallows by the estuary, and had seen the great beast surface out among the waves. The first few were not sure they had seen anything at all, so swiftly did the beast dive back down into the water. But Bluescreen had seen and had raced up the seawall for a better vantage point. From the height he could see the powerful beast swimming back and forth in the ocean near them.

He had, of course, sounded the alarm. The ripples in the water disappeared momentarily as something below caught the great beasts attention before it came back up in a rush of spray, cresting the surface like some primordial beast from a time before history. It's jaws snapped at a fish, catching it with lightning fast speed and swallowing it mostly whole. The rippling scales of the dragon shimmered in the sunlight, blue and green. Barnacles were attached to the creature along it's back, but the great serpentine belly was nearly pristine and shimmered in the late afternoon sun.

A great bellow escaped the beast as something else caught it's attention and it dove and broke the surface again near the southern seawall. It swam along it's length, as if investigating this curious addition and broached land on the shelf near the northern seawall, waves and spray crashing up against the hewn stone of the wall itself. Had it wanted to the beast could undoubtedly torn the wall itself asunder. But there was little reason to. The entire city lay open, cradling the estuary from the land side and the sea was the soft underbelly.

Both city guard patrols had formed a semblance of order and were positioned near the mouth of the estuary, not far from Deon's tavern. The roars of the beast sent most scrambling for cover.  And shortly after a close inspection of the wall it rolled back into the ocean, in an immense splash and rapidly shot into the deep.

Bluescreen breathed a sigh of relief. Such a monster could easily have torn half the town asunder.

Another horn sounded from the southern wall and his gaze snapped up. The beast had made landfall and was exploring the landward side of the wall itself. There were people out there. Hunters, children, eager merchants.

He was torn. The guard was needed to protect the harbor. In an instant he decided and a call was put out for the heroes.

William was the first to answer. He was near the gate working out at the weight bench south of the barracks. Garrett was drilling the bowsquad on formations nearby.

The monk shot out the gate in a flash, leather armor creaking in the heat of the afternoon sun. The beast was spotted. A hunter had already taken a few shots at it and perhaps because it's brain couldn't comprehend the thought that something so small should defy a beast of it's magnitude, but the water dragon began heading away from the entrance. William gave chase but could not catch up to it. Out of the corner of his eye he spotted movement as he ran after the dragon.

A sudden tinny clanking filled his ears and a grinning Snu-Snu quickly outpaced him. She laughed as she ran by, hefting her greataxe.

"You must run faster little man! Or you will not catch us!"

The barbarian, almost miraculously, ran down the dragon as it was making for the open water again. She brought her greataxe down on it's tail, fully expecting to see the skin part and blood to flow. With a grunt and a dull thud the axe slid on the wet scales and only bruised the beast. With a sudden surprising ferocity the dragon turned and whipped out, slamming Snu-Snu to the ground. It's teeth streaked towards her but she rolled out of the way just in time. It occurred to her then that a beast used to eating anything under the sea would likely be able to bite her in half if it wanted to.

The dragon reared back again as she scrambled into a defensive posture, axe in front of her. The dragon lunged as she began her swing and almost miraculously she connected, bashing the dragon heavily in the head. The blow seemed to stun the dragon but to Snu-Snu's surprise the skin still had not given way. The armored hide was simply too tough. As the dragon struggled to regain it's bearings Snu-Snu tried raining blows on it but the dragons' tail lashed out and tripped her. The jaws clamped down on her leg, sharp teeth beginning to puncture when a sudden whistle-crack filled the air and a glass-tipped arrow shattered against the dragon's flank. Another arrow sped towards the beast's head and it was forced to dodge, the arrow glancing off the scaly skin.

And suddenly an ear-shattering yell split the air as the monk launched himself at the dragon wholeheartedly. William attacked it from behind, landing blow after blow in rapid succession. Individually the blows were insufficient to do little more than bruising, but between them, and another lucky shot in the head from Snu-Snu they managed to knock the beast unconcious temporarily. Glass and copper arrows fell like rocks from the sky, and axe and fist did what they could but few seemed to find their mark.

The beast regained conciousness and took a snap at William before trying to retreat towards the sea.

Furious at seeing her foe escaping the barbarian rushed in once more and in a scything motion bashed the water dragon in the head once more, knocking it down and disorienting it. The beast belched some vile smelling fluids and began to rise again but Snu-Snu was there and the dragon received the full force of the blow from the steel great-axe. The blow clearly did damage internally but did not break the skin so the barbarian tried again, and again. On the third fierce chop the neck finally gave way and Snu-Snu cleanly severed the head from the body, which thrashed and spurted translucent blackish-red blood all over.

She stood there and howled once, then looked at the others. Tired, sore, dripping in sweat and blood. And she grinned.

((Snu-Snu got the kill, and therefore the trophies. Assists awarded to William, who could simply not catch up with the dragon. And to Garrett (Along with some other unnamed hunters) Bluescreen, Snu-Snu gets the Dragon skull trophy and megabeast soul. Other rewards will be given by Count Innu.

Meph, here is an interesting tidbit. The water dragon corpse counts as a megabeast. The head, amusingly did not. It is possible to acquire more than normal from the beasts when body parts are severed. For example, it had two souls. A megabeast soul and a normal one (Since normal beasts have a soul attached to the head, which was disposed of in the butcher shop, while the dragon corpse had to be done in the cook guild.)

Can an unarmed Monk even do any sort of lethal damage to an armored opponent or Megabeast? If not, at least I can still kill Titans made of mud or something.

Go meditate and pray.

Continue forging weapons.

Beirus, the answer is yes. I had made a save before engaging the dragon and used that copy to test out your question. In one of the tests Snu-snu caught the beast but was pretty badly mangled by it before you got there to distract the dragon. You pummelled it to death eventually.

As in 56 pages of combat logs later, eventually. But yes, you can kill a water dragon with your bare hands. You had not leveled up your Athleticism yet, which is why I suspect you were slower and it took so long. Working to remedy that in actual game.

Also, new round of pay up for full year. All guilds fully completed except last addition to tailor (since no silk-worms) and just working on fishing guild down near waterfront, but that is no biggie. Anything you desire I can, in theory, make. Though I am short of glue for my libraries. Working on that still. I have successfully stockpiled them and hope they will be useable. Dwarven contracts have been purchased. I will post next week the prices for the dwarven workshop. He will be there for 1 year.

Meph, I have accumulated some orichalcum. In relation to steel how effective is it? I know it is high value, but is it a combat grade metal?
I have your hero acting as a sort of arcane knowledge specialist. She has Sorcery and Archaeology active since San is overseeing excavation of the ruins. Incidentally, I have excavated about 1-200 of the collapsed brick and found nothing substantive in it. Am I supposed to find anything?

Imeka, you have made a gem-tipped helm for Garrett. And some more arrows. He used a lot against the dragon. Setting up a range for archers to practice at as well.

Incidentally, since it appears that heroes are a separate race they cannot become members of the guilds, guards or squires. Only minions have that option.

Also, there are two megabeast souls available. Since Mephistopheles is our arcane knowledge liason she will demonstrate how to tap into the power of a megabeast soul. Bluescreen the other one is yours to use as you see fit.

I will post special goodies found early next week as well as an update of character inventory for use at the dwarven workshop.

Orichalcum is better than steel for combat. Good for armor and edged weapons.

Journal of San, countess consort, Year 56

Although the news of the city naturally interests me greatly I believe my primary purpose for beginning this record is to expound upon our findings at our excavation site. I know my husband, Innu refers to it as the quarry, but he has a head for numbers and trade, not for the rigors of academia.

The excavation has gone fairly well. Initially, of course, the site had begun as a quarry. Approximately 270 feet inland from the oceans edge and roughly 70 feet down from the current surface, nearly 500 feet north of the isthmus where the river meets the ocean is where we first found signs of previous occupants. The initial find consisted of a small section of compressed brick wall. Not 50 feet NE another section of wall was found at the same elevation. This section was thirty feet thick in places and was practically 150 feet long when fully excavated. No items of interest were found in the wall structure itself. I suspect that it may have been the remains of a house, near a settlement wall at one point.

We found a second tier of compressed brick another ten feet down and to the SE of the initial finding, similar in size and composition to what I suspected may have been a wall. It's presence neither confirms nor refutes my position until we have found more.

Perhaps the most scientifically intriguing aspect are the veins of weak warpstone that we have found nearby and according to the papers of Heurone, et. al. are likely to indicate the knowledge of and practice with the arcane arts of some form or another. While that remains a possibility it is nevertheless also possible that strong magic could have been employed in the overthrow and subsequent burial of the structures in the first place.

A local hero, Mephistopheles has been instrumental in both cataloging our finds according to my guidelines. No additional clues were found as to the nature or source. Further excavation is undoubtedly warranted.

My assistant, Mephistopheles has also helped in sorting through the vast quantities of rubble that have been generated while searching in the areas around the wall. I have the miners meticulously digging so that they disturb the site as little as possible. Any finds are to be reported immediately to either myself or my assistant. We have found additional signs of habitation around the structures, signs that indicate high culture and such impressive skill with metallurgy and stonecraft that it rivals our current techniques.

We found one relic, an actual item from the site in question. Upon removal of the dirt around it with painstaking care we found it to be a pair of rusty steel trousers. Despite the saline conditions the item was in a remarkable state of repair. The steel had been worked into a wire of sorts and woven into cloth so fine that it felt more like silk, were it not for the rust cankering it. I have not heard of such skill with steel before, due to it's hardness. The softer, more malleable metals, have been known to be spun into fabric, but steel?

I had wanted to take it to Automatix and the other smith's guild members for inspection but I'm afraid it was swiped from our workbench. I have heard rumors that a pantsless child swiped it to wear, but I've yet to spot the miscreant who absconded with our treasure.

Several other large blocks came out of the quarry later, in two batches. The first batch of treasure took little time to clean as the dirt did not adhere thoroughly and to my astonishment we found both a throne and a weapon rack of sorts out of pure gold!

The second set was no less surprising. Two thrones, a weapon rack and a statue of humans of all things, made of solid ruby. Whether these items were cast from liquid gemstone or cut into shape, as unlikely as it may seem, from a larger stone I cannot tell. The furniture appears as useable as ever and we eagerly await new finds. My husband and I have claimed one of the ruby thrones and the ruby weapon rack. The ruby statue I have had mounted in front of our city entrance gate, where I hope to someday have a garden or park of sorts built along the river. Perhaps I can get the mill covered in passion fruit vines, but still have it functioning.

The other ruby chair I have gifted to Mephistopheles, for her excellent work in this find. The gold throne I have given to William for his valiant defense against the water dragon. He worked quite hard and got little glory from it. The same with Garrett. To him I have gifted the gold weapon rack for his bow. Such a magnificent weapon deserves a worthy place to hold it. And such gifts help tie these heroes to our city tighter. They have proven themselves invaluable, Maria has been indispensable diagnosing and treating the aftereffects of digging along the warpstone veins, and the others have proven themselves in combat or as intellectuals. Innu was right in sending for them. Perhaps in time others will come, but for now, our city stands proud of those who serve it and who live here.

Shadow of Fate:

Account balance:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It seems like I'm still raking in the dough. Just out of curiosity, I noticed it said that I got + 700 for goods and skills provided... Then after the taxes, it says I get +500 for healer services. Can I safely assume that the 700 is from my minion's glassmaking skill, and that the 500 is from my Hero as a doctor/healer/whatever? And that would mean I made 1200 total this update between the two of them?

Also, what is my glassmaking skill now? My profile information on Shadow said that it was only talented glassmaking at 6, with the bonecraving at 15 being legendary. Does this still hold true? And if it does, why is my glassmaking still so much lower?

Finally, I need a way to quantify what exactly Shadow is making out of glass, and what quality glass. I need to know because I may want to upgrade it. I am looking to increase my profit margin, but before I can I need to know these things.
