In Campione, Verethagnra was slain by Godou, the protagonist, who stole his powers and became a Campione, or godslayer. However (in the LN), the two were friends before Verethangra regained all of his powers. Godou, after Verethragna became a monster, felt a responsibility to put to rest his old friend, and does so, with the help of another god and Erica.

The gauntlet, however, isn't associated with Verethragna, but is a modified version of another god from Campione.))

((I'm working out the best way to let Mitsuru lose to John while still making her look incredibly stylish. And make it look as if she would have won. Because seriously if it wasn't for the fact he's lost twice she would win because genre savvy and Mami expy.
