A LOT of suggestions!
« on: August 11, 2014, 08:37:30 am »

just want you guys to inspire!

Hoard!
Activity zone - The dwarfs haul valuable items to this zone. Attracts dragons! Maybe an option menu, what and how much gets hoarded!
(This is cuz I often dont know what to do with all that gold goblets/coins and silver stuff)

Arsonist!
Thieve and Kidnapper are fun! Bring some guy who sneaks in and burns stuff!

MultitileBeasts!
Beasts that are 2x2x2 big or giants that are 1x1x3! Nothing special expect they cant go through small corridors and can be hit more easy!(and look epic)

Natures Wrath!
Talking about earthquake, erupting volcano, tornado, flood/tsunami, blizzard...

Toys and instruments...
U dont use ur toy???

More disease!
Common cold and smallpox stuff!

Family friendly rooms!
Cant I just assign a family to a room (It gets too confusing with all that furniture and the table/throne behaviour)

Non suicide Hatching!
Kinda like the -> located a dump stone mechanic!

Honour!
Just a number in the status menu. Grows if you fight melee, shrinks if you use traps. Attracts heros/villians and whatsoever xD

Ofc all negative suggestions optional!

Once the economy works properly i'm fully expecting there to be a treasury room and some kind of secretary noble who manages finance.

Forgotten beasts can already be made of fire.
Imagine a living conflagration setting everything on fire it touches.

Planned IIRC, so i'm sure we'll see this eventually. I'd love to see a 2x1x3 Bronze Colossus.

Natures Wrath!
Talking about earthquake, erupting volcano, tornado, flood/tsunami, blizzard...
We already have unusual weather in evil biomes, but as above this is planned IIRC.

Does it say "Histories of fun and playing around"? I thought so.
Greed and labor FTW.

More disease!
Common cold and smallpox stuff!
Syndromes can already do that. The problem i believe is diseases not being transmissible in the right way and dwarves not becoming immune so they keep spreading and receiving the same disease.

I had the same idea quite a while back (shameless self-promotion), and i was told that Tarn already has plans for making rooms and workshops into proper zones.

What? I cannot into language.

Adventure mode has tracks reputation, so i'm sure this'll get into Dwarf mode eventually.

Its usually common on the suggestion forum to explain in a few sentences why you think your suggestion is a good idea and how it is to be implemented.  It is also better to search for existing threads for ideas first.  (There are a ton of threads on magic, economics, and multi-tile creatures for example.)
For example:
The multi-tile creature suggestion comes up often, and it is usually an issue of how it is implemented, not whether we agree that it is something that should be eventually done.  (Pathing issues with multitile creatures are one of Toady's problems with them IIRC).

For a Hoard, you could effectively create one by setting value requirement on your stockpiles with custom settings.

Arsonists.... why are goblins/enemies lighting things on fire?  Is it sabotage?  Why don't they poison your well instead?  Seems like this suggestion would go bundled with a few other involving additional types of attacks on your fort.

There are a lot of issues to work out with natural disasters.  Practical issues like FPS issues.  Gameplay balance issues, like are they allowed to hit in the first year?  And how to actually implement them...

You can try searching the suggestion forum next time, and you can see what ideas are already discussed, and maybe reply to those threads to develop the idea. Also, previous thread that discusses natural and plagues some (among other ideas):  http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=141230.msg5509307#msg5509307

And, of course, you could read the development list and old development lists. Rule of thumb is that if it's on the new development list it's closer by than anything on the old development list.

Hoards already exist: These are basically coin stockpiles, you just need to add crowns and other colds items to it.

Quote
Allowing constructions to burn, use of kindling/hay/etc. where reasonable
Responding properly to personal fire issues (all modes)
Fleeing burning buildings
Fighting fire (all modes)
Designation to set item or tile on fire in dwarf mode

Multitile creatures are only implied by the devlist, but still planned, so are toys.

Of course, this does not prevent discussion, but this is a part of the forum where it's totally okay to rack up a thread from five years back and add your own opinion. Otherwise we get 70 people saying the same thing ;)

Yeah I should of mentioned that. Necros (posting on really old threads thus raising a dead discussion) are totally okay on the suggestion forum if the old thread is close to the ideas you want to bring up and discuss.  In the case of magic for example, there are like dozens of thread, so pick one with ideas you like are that was going in a direction you liked to necro.

I think most crafts that are now useless will be useful eventually. Musical instruments will be used in taverns and inns to entertain, dwarves will probably wear jewelry, maybe stuff like plates and cutlery will be included to add happy thoughts. The hoard may come to be actual coins.

As for toys, it kinda looks like they would bring some skill exp to dwarves that play with them(mini-forge for example) or maybe there will be daycare centers and the daycare task.

That stuff about rooms is cool. I'd like to think that I could make big fancy rooms for families of wealthy dwarves that would essentially be underground manors.

Honour - don't like it. Traps are cool. I like to think of dwarf fortresses as gigantic mountain-like piles of stone with spikes jutting out of the walls and frightening corridors where you can step wrongly and have a lead cage close around you or get impaled by bolts. Honour just seems like something elves or humans would be worried about

All right!

Good to hear that most of the stuff is already in planing!

To the honour/reputation system: imho its the only (or the best way) to balance traps!
>>Honour just seems like something elves or humans would be worried about<<
well actually this can exactly be the way it should go! Other dwarves dont care about your honour, but some humans and elves
(who have also have some honour) are effected!

To the hoard: Yep right now my stuff is on these stockpiles! Im asking for an impact! And yeah a noble that manage this is a great idea!

Arsonist and Sabotage: Yep I like that way of thinking! Right before a siege some bad guys try to mess up your fortress!

To the suicide hatching language thing: Yeah totally confused me, what I was trying to say:
The Channel mechanic kills to many dwarves! You just cannot channel multiple lvls without some suicide!
It would help if they channel only from the top down, (all on the current lvl channels have to be done before going deeper)
Well it would probably still cause some accidents and trapped dwarves..

I think arson ought to wait until there is some way to actually fight fires without resorting to immersion-breaking exploits.  Then arson should be a standard part of Goblin sieges (and Greek fire and/or flaming arrows should be a standard part of Human sieges).

I always figured crafts could be claimed by dwarves.  It would give a happiness boost if they had knick-knacks to put on their cabinet/their own personal goblet (made of their favorite material) to dip into a barrel of their favorite booze.

Instruments could be used by a bard labor easily.  They'd perform in your statue gardens (and could be a requirement for nobles- no culture here!? psh, backwoods outpost not worth my time!) and give happy thoughts.  Toys could be given to kids to avoid unhappy thought of boredom.

Personally, I hate kids.  Not only do they sit around turning my fortress wealth into shit without raising a finger.  But then they turn 14 and take over as mayor since all they did was goof off and polish social skills.  The babies should be in a nursery so I can actually use female dwarves in my military/build water projects/send into the caverns without fearing a tantrum spiral (GOD DAMNIT PUT THE BABY DOWN BEFORE RUSHING INTO THE GOBLINS).  Then they can be sent to a school where a dwarf can teach them one of his/her skills.  So when they hit 14, they won't take over your fort AND will have a useful labor or two... instead of graduating into butt monkey hauling jobs and/or fresh meat for the goblin grinder.  14 years of disrupting his mother's work, eating food, and doing nothing... to carry wood for my furnace!? BAH!

The toys ought to be able to give kids skill if they can do a task of playing with it - stuff like toy mini-forges should have some obvious relevance in teaching.

For hurricanes I almost wonder if you can mod the game to have tropical biomes rain cave-in dust...
